In 1994, John’s Place opened in the Lincoln Park neighborhood of Chicago. Founded on the premise that local tastes better, we quickly became a neighborhood favorite. Later, we opened our Roscoe Village location and have been in love ever since. Whether you come for lunch, dinner or weekend brunch, you are sure to get a great meal served in a friendly, relaxed setting. In the summertime, soak up the sun on our lovely sidewalk café. We came here with my family and had an amazing experience from start to finish. The atmosphere was warm, inviting, and comfortable — the kind of place where you can relax and actually enjoy time together.
The food was outstanding across the board. My mom and my fiancée ordered the shrimp tacos, and both said they were incredibly fresh, flavorful, and perfectly seasoned. My niece had the bacon cheeseburger, which was juicy, cooked just right, and clearly made with quality ingredients. I ordered the brisket tacos, and they were phenomenal — tender, smoky, and packed with flavor. Every dish at our table was a hit, which says a lot when dining with a group.
What truly made the experience exceptional was our server, William. He was super nice, genuinely friendly, and incredibly attentive, checking in at all the right times without ever feeling intrusive. William went out of his way to make sure everything was perfect and that we felt welcome the entire visit. His great attitude and professionalism honestly made the experience even better.
On top of that, the prices are very reasonable for the quality and portion sizes. Between the amazing food, the inviting atmosphere, and William’s excellent service, this place is a definite must-visit. We’ll absolutely be back and will be recommending it to others.

Great local breakfast spot in Roscoe Village! Cute interior and a ton of covered outdoor seating in the summer! The French toast sticks are a must to split with the table and I had the John’s scramble but swapped for brisket- so yummy! The breakfast quesadilla and burritos are also great choices. Can’t go wrong here! Fun twist on some classic breakfast items is always appreciated.

Stopped in for brunch today. The staff all around is so absolutely wonderful. Food was really great, they truly have options for everyone without having an overwhelming menu. Highly reccomend the silly donuts and the salmon board. Prices were reasonable for the city and street parking was easy to find. Will be back!

Was able to get a table for three on Saturday night without a wait. Nice little no frills restaurant with a clean, welcoming interior. Family friendly environment for sure. Service was personable and highly attentive.
Impressive variety on the menu, and I’d trust just about everything on it. The cheese curds legitimately could be the best in the city. They’re delicate, crunchy and loaded with flavor. I’m not a big ketchup guy, but their smoked chile ketchup is a home run.
All in all a terrific option spot for a meal, suitable for many occasions!

Got the cinnamon roll pancakes and they were legitimately some of the best pancakes I ever had. Crispy edges but super soft and tender in the middle with lots of cinnamon and sugar… I can’t wait until I can get them again!

My wife and I were in Chicago for Paul McCartney concert and we were walking near our Airbnb. We saw John’s place and stopped in.

Went just after the children’s Halloween parade on Roscoe this past weekend. Ordered the Greek salad, fish tacos, and from the kid’s menu bite-sized mini corn dogs. The food was good, service great, and we left full and content.

It was our first meal eating outside since Covid and it was delicious! I commend the staff and the way they handled everything, cleaning and disinfecting tables between customers, keeping tables at least 6ft apart, and all wearing masks! I had the lunch peanut bowl and my wife, the John’s place chopped salad with grilled salmon, everything was really great and we felt very comfortable. Look forward to returning!
