First stop in NY you have to get pizza right ?!? Exactly just a few streets over we ended up at John’s. Starting with a healthy portion of Caeser salad which was great fresh shavings of Parmesan and crisp lettuce. Had the margarita pizza with pepperonis a large ( 2 of us got it down guess I was pretty hungry). It gave everything a ny slice should’ve gave I was highly pleased. Chewy crust, satisfying slices, and a beautiful time.

Stopped by this iconic spot in Times Square. We ordered the Margherita pizza, which was quite mild in flavor, good if you aren’t looking for anything too spicy or overpowering. We paired it with a nice, refreshing beer which hit the spot. The service was just okay; our waiter was a bit “medium”,not bad, but not particularly attentive or enthusiastic either. Great atmosphere inside the old church, though!

A Beautiful Pizzeria Renovated from a Historic Church

John’s Pizzeria is set inside a beautifully renovated former church. The spacious, multi-level dining room features a striking Manhattan mural and original stained-glass ceilings, creating a great atmosphere.

They serve classic New York–style pizza with a slightly thicker crust, topped simply with cheese and tomato sauce. Hearty, satisfying, and nicely chewy around the crust. Appetizers, pasta, and sides are also available, making it a solid spot for a relaxed meal or date.

I’ve ordered 3 different pizza to insure I give my absolute honest feedback. I’ve also ordered one pasta with meatballs, for the quality of the pizza I must say I was expecting something little more premium, the crust was little hard and the topping though it was packed felt like it was coming direct from the freezer to the pizza and then placed into the fire pit, the chicken was little hard, the pepperoni was little to oily with less cheese and the margarita I was expecting more cheese they covered it with some greenry which is a first for me on a margarita pizza. While the location is fabulous and the architecture is beautiful the place missed the soul which is the music that will greate the vibe. If you are not an expert pizza lover then you won’t find my comments valid as the food is still tasty just not as perfect as when visiting other pizzeria in the same area

What a fantastic find while in the city for the day! Staff was nice, attentive, and informative. Place was clean, nostalgic, and warm. We placed our order and it arrived so quick to our table! Plenty of seating, which was a great find because so many restaurants have very limited seating in NYC. Would definitely come back here! For a group of 4, our bill was less than 70.00 before tip.

We had to grab a quick bite before our 1pm show.

You need to wait in line as they don’t do reservations. This doesn’t bother me. It’s actually quite interesting. It’s part of the experience.

We along with quite a few others were swiftly seated. I can tell they do this regularly. It’s efficient and pleasant.

Our waitress was extremely nice and friendly and efficient.

The ambience is nice. The food super tasty. I highly recommend John’s even though the name is boring. 😀

We know we will come back again!

Walked into John’s of Times Square on 44th like a grown man on a mission
First thing that hits you—this place looks epic inside. Cathedral ceilings, old-school brick, stained glass vibes… feels like you’re about to attend mass for pizza. Absolute New York energy.
Then there are the 800-degree coal-fired ovens—no thermostats, just pure skill. Four brick ovens seasoned with age like cast iron, run by pizza guys who trained longer than most prizefighters. No two pies the same, all of them respected.
I ordered the regular Neapolitan, because when a spot has this much confidence, you don’t overthink it.
Crispy, chewy, smoky, fresh ingredients doing pushups on my taste buds. Simple. Honest. Dangerous.
No gimmicks. No shortcuts.
Just a legendary NYC pizza joint reminding me why New York doesn’t debate pizza—we just eat it and let history speak.

Don’t be deceived by the understated signage on the outside. Just off the main section of Times Square, is John’s Pizzeria. Whenever I read something like “best pizza in NYC”, especially in Time Square, I am skeptical…. but truly, this is the best pizza I’ve had (outside of Brooklyn), and drinks are reasonably priced. However, the real surprise is that this pizzeria is housed in an old church and maintains some of the original architecture, including a stained glass dome skylight in the center, church pew booths, etc.

We found this pizza spot near Times Square on Google Maps while looking for a place with shorter wait times and less salty pizza. The spacious dining area meant we were seated right away. We ordered a Margherita pizza with light cheese, and it was fresh, not greasy, and well balanced in flavor. The staff were friendly overall, though it was slightly inconvenient that our group, carrying large backpacks, was first seated at a small two person table.

One of the best place to have pizzas if you are visiting times square area. They also have veg options available. They also serves some good vegetarian food item like bruschetta and margharita pizza. They also have good options in drink as well. The staff is courteous and the place is value for money.
