First time here. Came with a friend. Passed by a few times and always wanted to stop — today was the day. It’s a small, cute-looking drive-in. The place looks well cared for.

Got greeted by a nice young woman. I ordered the root beer float, and he got the Black Cow. They use Cedar Crest Ice Cream, which I think is high quality. The float came in a glass mug and looked amazing — and it tasted excellent. To me, the Black Cow looked a bit watery (overmixed), but he enjoyed it.

It was rainy, and we got the only picnic table that was covered. There were plenty of other picnic tables on the grassy areas across the parking lot.

Don’t know much about the food, but would definitely come back for the root beer float.

Jessie, thank you! We called for a carry out Friday fish fry. Fish fry and soup were both solid! Service was great.

Absolutely Delicious & Nostalgic! ✨✨✨✨

John’s Drive-In is a hidden gem that hits all the right notes. I had the taco hot dogs and a mug of their famous root beer, and it was everything I didn’t know I was craving! The taco dogs were packed with flavor messy in the best way and the root beer? Served in an old-fashioned glass mug, ice cold and perfectly sweet. The whole experience made me feel like I’d stepped back in time in the best way. If you’re anywhere near, do yourself a favor and stop by. This place is the real deal.

The customer service was fantastic friendly, fast, and welcoming. The food came out quickly and fresh. There’s outdoor seating, which made the whole experience even more enjoyable. Between the tasty food, great vibes, and that refreshing root beer, we love this place!

Highly recommend if you’re craving something simple, satisfying, and full of charm!

I love this place good food every time! open later than a lot of places downtown. Today’s (Saturday September 27th at 3:30 pm) experience was awkward because the 2 girls taking orders made me question if I will come back…they got 3 peoples orders wrong (which happens, totally fine) and then proceeded to complain about the customers who said something about it within earshot. Instead of just moving on and fixing things they would argue back, “I didn’t write down that order I wrote down this..” please stop arguing and complaining to/about your paying customers

“It’s John’s”
Like Jimmy’s Grotto, a Waukesha staple, and for good reason. Ownership has changed hands since I first started going here “back in the day” (1950s). It was a A&W early on, and in 1974 went independent.
Get a Frosty.

Food was okay, but definitely seemed like they over charge for the amount of food they give you, spent 22.00 bucks for 2 people and we both left hungry. The can of soda they offer was slightly chilled and the cup of water I ordered was given with no ice .

John’s is a Waukesha classic.
Best Root Beer Floats Anywhere!!!
Ultimate Chilli cheese fries are my hands down favorite. Love the high-school kids working. Family owned. Heck what’s not to love. Thinking of this place will always remind me of home.
Thanks for sticking around!!

John’s is a small long-running family establishment gem of an eatery in Waukesha. When in season you have to stop for there Friday fish fry, it is phenomenal. Awesome root beer that has a hint of vanilla flavor to it. Very friendly staff and I have never ordered anything off the menu that I didn’t like.
