So much history in this place. The waitress was attentive, food was hot, fresh, and delicious. I had the grilled shrimp platter and my husband did fish and chips. Both were served with hush puppies, fries, and coleslaw. It was cool to read about the history of the original Johnny’s, with articles displayed near our table. Great place to eat and watch the games, if you are into sports.

All around good experience tried the taco Tuesday special ordered over the phone and the person Morgan who answered was super sweet and informational, then I went in and was greeted by the bartender who got me my food promptly. Johnny’s has a great atmosphere and good food and beverages. We went early before a KU basketball game. Lots of seating. Had a pizza and some beer. Lots of TVs for watching sports. Plenty of wait staff. Fun place !

This place has always been a staple in Lawrence.
My family goes here every St. Patrick’s Day for good food, fun, and a great spot to see all the people and parade enjoyment.
The food is delicious, and the service has always been excellent. It’s also a lot! You won’t go hungry here.
Awesome drinks, as well as an extensive list for all kinds of mixed drinks, as well as shots. The menu also has a wide variety of items.
All kinds of seating as well as outside seating. Plus, they have expanded the parking lot.
It’s fun, and great for all kinds. Highly recommend.

So we were looking for some late night grub after a KU football night game and someone recommended Johnny’s. We loved it. It was perfect – comfortable old bar environs spruced up with the occasional big screen TV to get your sports fix.
We both got Wilson’s wings on fries which was exactly the right size for a late night meal. My only mistake was pairing it with a Michelob Ultra instead of the house lager. It was an error instantly recognized when I tasted my buddy’s. In my defense we had been drinking all day and I needed something light.
The topper for us was when the manager of the joint gave us a private tour of the place. Spencer had been around the bar since his pre teens and gave us all the history. It was a great way to end our night. It was late and not crowded so I can’t say that tour happens often but it was cool. No doubt in my mind that if I am in Lawrence for a football or hoops game, my night will end at Johnny’s.

Such a great KU vibe! Love the court table tops. I had the Tank 7 burger (beer cheese on it) and a Tank 7 on tap. Great beer selection!! Service was on their game!

Usually I love Johnny’s pizza. But my husband ordered slices to go last night, and when I started to eat mine I discovered it had zero cheese on it. The toppings were just falling off and it definitely wasn’t pizza, sadly. So disappointing. Someone was obviously high or something…

Wanted to visit the original Johnny’s for a late night snack. The atmosphere was nice and food and drinks came out super quick and speedy. Food was great for a pub/dive. We were slightly shocked at the price for two people since it was 57 dollars for a pub. We both got iced tea and the teas were 3 dollars each. I got a mixed drink and my partner got a beer, but for some reason his beer was about the same cost as my mixed drink. Kind of hurt to swipe the card since there were no prices on the drink menu at all. Was a nice experience, but probably won’t go back unless theres a special or happy hour.

This place is seriously such a community staple and hits it out of the park with every visit… and I visit a lot. The greatest burgers, beer, appetizers, pizza, chicken, you name it you can’t go wrong. And while the West Lawrence location has its perks, nothing can beat the OG Johnny’s Tavern. The vibe is rustic and lively and the bartenders and staff are always happy to see you with a blue collar lager always cold off the tap. Keep doing you Johnny’s Tavern!
