One star and that’s generous of me if I could give none I would. The experience at this restaurant was absolutely disgusting. The bathrooms were completely deplorable—there wasn’t even properly working water, and there was no hot water at all. The toilet was covered in fecal matter, forcing me to squat just to use it. That alone should be enough to shut this place down. Back at the table, things didn’t improve. The cup my drink came in was filthy, the pop was flat, and both the napkin and silverware were visibly dirty. The entire restaurant looked like no one ever cleans it. Sitting there felt incredibly uncomfortable—I didn’t want to touch anything. When my food finally arrived, I had ordered a BLT, but the bacon was so hard it was completely inedible. I had to remove it and ended up eating what was basically a lettuce, tomato, and mayo sandwich. For the price they charge, this is beyond unacceptable. If I could give less than one star, I absolutely would. This place is overpriced, unsanitary, and not worth the risk. Do yourself a favor and stay far away.

I stopped in for breakfast and the experience was rough from the start. After I got my water, the server said she would check back in a few minutes so I could look over the menu. Those “few minutes” turned into about 10 to 15. Another server even had to remind her about her own table, and she admitted she forgot because it was slow.
The water had black specks floating in it. I didn’t say anything, but it was not something you want to see when you sit down to eat.
While I was trying to enjoy my meal, the servers were cleaning and dragging furniture around. It was loud and they said we’re bored.
I ordered 3 pieces of Canadian bacon and got 1 slice of ham instead. At that point it matched the rest of the experience. Nothing felt attentive or careful.

Another stop on my trip to Cleveland, and we figured we’d grab breakfast ~ literally would have preferred anywhere else. The food here was… mediocre at best. We got the Dawg Pound skillet, which promised sausage gravy on the menu, only to have a dry plate at the end. The waitress we had seemed frazzled, annoyed, and ignorant. We felt ignored, like we had signs over our heads saying “from out of town.” She even forgot out pancakes completely (of course, they were on the check)! But the main turn-off of this place, besides the terrible service and the waitresses who need an attitude adjustment, was their “I don’t care” attitude about my peanut allergy. Ultimately, the one friendly waitress in the restaurant answered my question, but the woman on the phone and our waitress didn’t bother to give me answers about the location being peanut-free. That’s something huge that shouldn’t be put on the back-burner.

AMAZING! I was in the area from Florida to go to Cleveland Clinic for transplant evaluation and surgery. I researched ALL restaurants in Avon and I decided on Johnny’s Boathouse. I door dashed as I shouldn’t be out in public (lungs) and boy did I write a novel with all kinds of special requests on the order form. Dinner arrived. It was my mom and I and we got the Fish and Chips meal and a burger with salad, fried and a baked potato. The food was perfect! So tasty and well seasoned and a lot of food. Then the coconut pie! Im going to have dreams about that! So good. Although food and service was 5 stars by itself I had a surprise in the bag. An encouraging note from “Johnny” himself. I was so moved! Next time Im in town Im going to the restaurant in person. Im sure it will be just as good if not better! THANK YOU Johnny’s Boathouse! You made my “last supper ” before surgery very special!

If you’d like a more in depth review. It was early in the day. Nothing was open other than this place and Perkins. I tried to call to ask if they had non breakfast food in the morning as I knew we didn’t want that. No answer. Called twice. Get there and it’s packed. 1 server working the whole place. Apparently 2 people didn’t show up for work. Find out can’t order non breakfast items. Settle on eggs Benedict as that’s something I don’t keep the stuff on hand to make myself. Took a solid half hour for the food to come out. My eggs Benedict wasn’t with it. Took another 10 minutes. It was cold somehow when it did come out. The English muffins weren’t even toasted, just set on the plate. Was not Canadian bacon as listed on the menu. Some thin type of regular ham. The “home fries” were barely cooked and terrible, I wouldn’t even call them home fries. Nothing tastes like anything other than grease. The waitress apologized and I basically told her the speed of service or anything like that wasn’t the issue the food just sucks. The woman ordered what we thought was going to be a couple pieces of bacon with scrambled eggs on a sandwich. It was a slab of grease omeletish thing with some bits of bacon in it. The kid got some pancakes and 2 pieces of sausage. Was the least bad looking thing there we got. I’d hope it was ok for $15. At the $40 price point for 3 basic breakfast items the food should not suck, let alone really really suck. She ate half of her food and I’m pretty sure she just threw it up. So if you are in Avon in the morning and the only 2 places that are open are this place and Perkins I can safely say Perkins is the call. We hardly ever go out to eat and just got totally fleeced for $40 on flavorless grease and guk ♂️

The food was good. Our server was nice. But the place is filthy. The window seals had thick dust on them, the floor was dirty and the bathroom was disgusting. If I had seen the bathroom first I would not have eaten there. The toilet and sink obviously had not been cleaned in a long time. I asked the server to tell her boss that I complained about it. She said he is aware because he has been told many times. We have always liked going there, but we won’t be going back. I hate to imagine what the kitchen looks like.

Unfortunately Johnny’s has gone downhill. My family has been steady customers for a number of years, ever since they started the business. They have had to raise their prices to the point it is not worth going for lunch/dinner. Last week my wife got a bowl of soup and half sandwich – was charged 11 bucks. Sandwich was a half of the small square sandwich bread. Turkey that was slimy and a piece of lettuce. Place was not full at all and yet waitress was not attentive, not getting cups of coffee in timely manner.
