I’m late in writing this review because my actual visit that I’m detailing here was about a week and a half ago, but I’ll keep it simple… I don’t know if some workers at this place has a personal problem with me (which i can’t imagine since there’s never been a problem voiced and I’ve certainly never done anything to anyone employed there), or if it’s with people who look like me (I’m a black man) or if it’s just plain happenstance incompetence, but the last time i ordered food there was the latest instance of this establishment serving me sub par food with obvious instances of bad food preparation!
To make a long story shorter, after previous times where i was given a partially burnt pizza puff with a hole in it and some of the filling missing, and another time where i was given a Gyro on a pita that was used straight out of the pack with no warming or toasting on the griddle. This time i again ordered a Gyro (2 of them) and i made a point of requesting that the pita be warmed on the grill, and i also ordered an Italian beef with hot peppers and a combo with sweet peppers.
While they did indeed manage to grill my pita this time, they decided to totally ruin the rest of BOTH of the sandwiches by absolutely DROWNING the sandwiches in tziki sauce! Absolutely disgusting! And it was definitely done on purpose because from the top it looked fine if i were to check my food before leaving, but all throughout the rest of the sandwich it was like they dipped all the rest of the meat in copious amounts of the stuff and on top of that it didn’t taste the same at all, it had an extra twang of sourness and bitterness that it normally doesn’t have, so i unfortunately suspect something was done to it purposely (maybe extra lemon juice squeezed into it??), i don’t know for sure but like i said this was overt bad food preparation which makes me think of all the these actions as intentional, so needless to say me and my wife couldn’t finish them. And while my stepdad said his combo was ok, my mom’s beef with hot peppers, though it had a nice flavor to the actual beef that i noticed after she asked me to taste it because they absolutely smothered her sandwich in the hot peppers and even after she took most of them off it was still extremely spicy as if they poured some of the juice on it! And we are not people who are averse to spicy food at all so it was glaring!!
I’m totally disappointed to be having to write this review because I’ve been there maybe 2 or 3 other times outside of the ones I’ve named and I’ve had good food, even the gyro when it was made normally and their big daddy burger as well. But a 50/50 shot at getting my food prepared correctly and without whatever malice that seems to surface at times when i patronize their establishment is not good enough to remain a loyal customer, so i will not be going back to that place, and whoever reads this is gonna take away from it whatever they will, but just know that this review is real and it’s what i have actually experienced and that’s the only place i can speak from. So i don’t care if you’ve had a million visits without issues, that doesn’t make their dealings with me ok in anyway with the incidents I’ve described here. So buyer beware!

Sadly I have to update this review. Today 12/20/25 I ordered a $31.00 carry-out order of (1 Gyro, 1 Onion Ring and 1 Reuben Sandwich) only to find out that my gyro was made with end of spit dried out thin sliced gyro meat. See pics, Also the carry-out bag that contain my food was infested with Gnats insects that flew out when I opened the bag to get my food out. This is not acceptable for the price of this food product. Premium price dictates premium product delivery. Also the quantity was less than usual. This restaurant has started to slip on consistently. QUALITY, QUANTITY, CONSISTENCY, PRICE AND SERVICE is starting to degrade from my recent experience. We as customers only want what is expected when we spend our hard earned money. There has been a noticeable change the products the staff delivers. Let the owner and the staff know these changes are not appreciated and are unacceptable.

Nothing beats a good Italian Beef especially when your in Chicagoland! That is exactly what you will get when you have an Italian Beef from Johnny’s. This was my second time at Johnny’s but first time at this location. The restaurant was clean, the staff was friendly and the food phenomenal! It’s a casual place to grab a great Italian Beef… They have several options besides the Italian Besf which I do plan on trying if I can eat there without ordering my favorite!

The young man who took our order was very nice and made recommendations since it was our first time eating here. We both opted for the Italian Beef, each with different toppings. The food was good. I liked the crunchy exterior of the bun, and how they gave plenty of au jus to make the bun juicy. The fries were standard fries, but good.

We have been ordering gyros from this place for years. We ALWAYS get the same thing, 2 gyros platters. We’ll this time me & my husband figured we would just get the gyros sandwich because we always waste the fries, all though they are delicious. I figured since neither of us want the huge amount of fries they come with we will ask if they can put 2 extra cubes of feta cheese on the side and a little extra sauce. Wellll, when we got our receipt my husband’s said the extra feta cheese was $3.48 and mine was $1.98. I’m like that’s weird, why 2 different prices. I asked the girl, who took our order, about this and she said yeah if you just buy a sandwich, not the meal, it doesn’t come with feta cheese so I’m like oh ok but why is 1 of ours almost $4 for the feta and the other almost $2 and she said yeah it’s extra when you don’t buy the meal. I’m like I know. There started getting customers behind me and I’m just like forget it. When we got home and took our sandwiches out my husband’s had the normal amt of meat on his and my sandwich was soooo small with very little meat on it. I thought I was being punked, lol. Even though there was very little meat on it, it still tasted good. And of course with the little cucumber sauce on the side it was $1 each.

I’ve been coming here for years for the one and only big daddy burger! It’s one of a kind and worth trying if you haven’t already. Double cheeseburger with grilled onions, gyro meat, tzatziki sauce and Pickles! That big daddy is huge. The fries and onion rings I’d give 3.5 out of 5..

Their cheesesteak is awesome. I get it without the peppers because I just don’t dig the taste but I recommend getting it well done really gives it a better bite. Onion rings are great too. Wanna try the milkshakes sometime.

This place is kind of hidden, but once you find it, you’ll be glad you did.
They have a very extensive menu, offering some of Chicagoland most popular sandwiches like Gyros, Italian beefs, Italian sausage, Maxwell Street Polish, hot dogs and char-broiled angus hamburgers just to name a few items.
The dining room is clean, nicely decorated with a couple of TV’s.
They also have a small outdoor patio if you want to enjoy the short summer days.
The staff is friendly and helpful with selecting your meal.
