Best Cafe in St. John’s. Food, staff, location, ambience. Easy to find, hard to beat.
Service was fast from clever people who were unintrusive and delightfully fun at the same time. That takes talent.
Didn’t try the outside patio seating, opting for the main chairs & tables cafe setting. It was not crowded on a weekday mid morning. Coffee service was good, as was the coffee.
Their Eggs Benedict (skipped the avocado) has a demurely delicate sauce atop a generous slice of ham. Fruit cup is excellent, with a well tailored list of fruits, displayed in order to make a flight of fruit that balances the savory. With seasoned potatoes as an appropriate interlude.
The Bloody Mary is distinctively garnished, passing the requisite celery stalk with a lemon wedge, creating a brighter citrus note with bounce. The skewer has two brines, an olive and a full pickle spear (nice for swirling Mary around). And then, surprise…a wedge of beet! Unexpectedly delicious when playing with Mary.

John Street Cafe is a subtle standout. Home to comforting favorites. And with a dozen specials, all of which sound interesting and delectable, this is the cure for flavor stagnation.

We love coming here for breakfast. Their French toast and omelettes are delicious! We love to sit outside and enjoy the nice weather. Service has been great every time we have gone. Plenty of places to walk to in the area as well!

Stopped in on a whim and wow, what a gem. It reminded me of an old school brunch spot that correctly focuses on food over anything else. Everything served was super fresh and delicious. Coffee was always full, service was stellar. They have an expansive list of specials, too, which is cool to see. Definitely my new neighborhood breakfast spot.

I had breakfast with my son here last Saturday. Dot was my waiter. It was so much fun and Dot made it that much more fun. Half the experience for me spending money eating out is the overall enjoyment, so thank you Dot, and the other young man that jumped in and played too. As an old woman, I really appreciate. That being said…. the food and drink was delish. My son talked me into a baileys and coffee (I think), so good. And Dot recommended the salmon omelet. Now, the menu had so many unique options. The omelet was very flavorful and was three meals for me. Yummy diced potatoes and even the toast, with their two different jams was good. I cannot wait to try different items on the menu, now that I know it has such good food. All around, we had a wonderful experience to kick off our weekend. Thank you all, happy cheer. ‘Tis the season.

I have only had breakfast here, but mostly because this is the place I think of when I want to go out to breakfast. Make sure and view the specials board when you visit. My best breakfasts have been ordered off of it. They offer both indoor and outdoor seating. I love that the outdoor seating is dog friendly. Service can be a little slow during busy times, but I think all restaurants struggle to get staffing these days.

My go-to items… scrambled eggs with asparagus, bacon and brie cheese, lemon-ricotta pancakes with blueberries, and the marinated chicken omelet with Italian sausage, cream cheese and sauce.

4/13/24 Another visit today with another great meal. That raspberry jam on the sourdough toast is fire! I love this place. Service was also excellent today. 5 stars all around!

6/23/24 Breakfast here never disappoints. This morning, my son, granddaughters, sister, and niece joined me. We all left happy with full bellies.

9/1/24 Always an amazing breakfast here. Brice, our waiter was fabulous. Warm mornings are perfect for dining on the back patio.

Cute local American fare breakfast spot.

This is a perfect location for a lazy Sunday brunch. Or if you have family staying at your place and you live in St John’s come here to save yourself cleaning dishes and let John Street Cafe take care of you.

They have all the staples for breakfast and a huge board of specials.

If you’re local to North Portland this place is a good spot for last minute brunch.
