I am a TRUE New Yorka and man I was beyond excited to try this. And had it again and it just gets better. This is by far the best pizza in St. George. Unbelievable you can fold a slice just like NYC. The “sawce” is tangy and sweet. The slices are perfect ratio of cheese to sawce. The pepperoni deliciousness and the way it should be. They sprinkle it with a little oregano before they close the box I felt like I was home again. John Gs not going anywhere else.
They were super busy on a Friday night (lots of take out and Doordash), so we had a long wait for food, but they brought us a complimentary piece of baklava (also good!) with our order. Nice Ceasar salad delivered in a cold bowl, plenty for 2 people. The inside is just a few tables and booths, couple outside picnic tables. The traditional pizzas looked good as well. We will be back!
*I do wish the local fast casual places in St. George would up their plastic ware and plates though. Hard to eat or cut into with flimsy forks and the cheapest paper plates. ♀️
Full disclaimer, I am not familiar with Detroit or New York style pizza so my review is subjective to my preferences in a pizza.
The positives? I appreciate how all of the specials cost the same amount and they’re loaded with toppings.
The letdown? The ingredients didn’t taste as fresh as we hoped. Those pies looked gorgeous, but they somehow tasted kinda bland.
Call ahead if you can. There was no wait when we arrived, but it still took 25+ minutes for two pizzas. I understand that quality food takes time, but for how long we waited, I expected a little more.
Both pizzas also tasted oddly sweet and were soaked in what smelled like garlic oil? This may be intentional, but it was too extra for me.
Oh and the white sauce pizza was a little dry so we asked for a side of tomato sauce. They handed me a tiny 2 oz container (which really tasted no different than a store bought can of pizza sauce) and charged me $1. Say what you want about inflation, but that is borderline robbery. Removing a star for that alone.
At the end of the day, I appreciate the variety that John G’s Pizzeria is bringing to St. George, but they can do better.
This is such an exciting addition to this part of town! We ordered the ocean view and the meatso (minus the sausage) pizzas with a Caesar salad.
The crust is EXCELLENT. Chewy, so flavorful. They do it right. The ocean view was unique, I’ve never had anything like it. All the flavors blended perfectly- i wasn’t sure if I would like the apricots but I loved them!! I didn’t sample the meatso but the simple caesar salad with what must be homemade dressing was a perfect side. The dressing was the best I’ve ever had.
I think they nailed the ambiance inside and there’s tables and chairs outside with umbrellas. Inside, the tables and chairs are heavy and good quality (something I’ve come to appreciate!).
They only opened a couple days ago so they are still training staff obviously and smoothing out wrinkles. There was about a 30 minute wait for pizza after we ordered (however it was pretty busy when we arrived), so be patient. Not sure how their call ahead system is yet but we’d probably try that next time.
Also I didn’t realize that our ocean view was missing the prosciutto until it was all gone and I was writing this review But it was SO good I didn’t even miss it. I look forward to going back and ordering it again to try it with! The Ocean View would be a great vegetarian option if you leave off the prosciutto.
Overall I’m glad I could come during their first days open. I’m so impressed! I’ve been to quite a few restaurants in their opening week and there’s often so many mistakes that it distracts from the food. But the flavors here absolutely outshined the hiccups. It’s a must try! I look forward to when they get in their groove, we will be regulars.

Update: came back and ordered the tutta and chicken bacon ranch pizzas along with the garlic knots and another Caesar salad. Pizza was delicious (the tutta feels like an extra pretty supreme), the garlic knots tasted like fried garlic donut bites and we loved them. And I can still confirm that the Caesar salad is hands down my favorite. That dressing is amazing!!! I will definitely come and order just that with chicken added
