My husband and I drove up to the area yesterday and noticed this cute bakery. We stopped and are glad we did. This is a well established business with a homey decor and fresh bakery offerings. We enjoyed a huge and delicious apple fritter, an Apple Bismarck and got a small cake to bring home.
The apple filling was delicious and not thick and sticky, it seems freshly made. The pastry was light and covered in a cinnamon sugar!
My husband enjoyed the massive apple fritter. It was delicious!
We got a cute little German Chocolate Cake for our anniversary dinner. They even wrote the number 14 on top of the cake. This cake was scratch made and absolutely delicious! It’s very very rich and the filling is so good.
They let us use the very clean bathrooms. My one complaint is this. I have never heard of a bumpy cake. I asked about this cake with these huge lumps under a layer of ganache. The guy said it’s cream cheese. I said ok, I was very confused. I asked is it a yellow cake or chocolate cake? Yellow was all the reply I got. I am not clear if he was frustrated or thought I was asking a weird question, but the response was very dismissive. I’m going to have to Google bumpy cake to find out what it is.

This is a quality little donut shop in Petosky. The quality is quite high.
We were disappointed with the apple fritters. They look marvelous, but are nearly absent of any actual apple.
The old fashioned cinnamon roll was great.
The lemon filled was great too.
They are busy, so it may be best to come prepared to get an assorted mix, a preset selection for your family, or cram everyone into the tiny showroom.

Best hometown bakery open at 5:30 am with baked ( lard free oil) doughnuts. When I say the best bakery in town I mean it. Trade the Dutch oven out in alanson, in the donuts were so sweet I couldn’t finish it. Johannes has the best fritters I’ve had in quite some time which I will post pictures of. The staff are dedicated opening at 5:00 a.m every day. Fritters are warm ,and fresh!!!!

Within the traditional category this place rocks! We headed over here upon recommendation from a friend. You won’t find anything spectacular like bespoke chocolate formed into an artistic embellishment, rather you’ll savor proven simple receipes that are tasty. I was impressed with the overall taste signature and rich flavor, as nothing was done in excess and not overly sweet. I wish the prices were more transparent. I certainly see a revisit in the future for when I head back up north.

I ordered a cake to be delivered to a local restaurant for a birthday lunch. The person who took my order was extremely polite and helpful. When we got the cake, it had exceeded my expectations: decorations were beautiful and the taste was to die for. I am extremely pleased with my overall experience and would recommend this bakery to everyone in the Petosky area!

Great little donut shop with hot coffee. Opens early so great to be able to pop in and grab a coffee. Donuts and pastries are fresh. Some are a little gooey but worth the effort. Cheese Danish are particularly good. Workers were pleasant.

We recently got all of our desserts for our wedding from Johan’s and they were a fan favorite! Everyone loved the assortment of cupcakes and donuts and we can’t recommend them enough! Kaitlin also made our wedding cake and it turned out perfect. It was delivered the morning of our wedding and made everything seamless. So glad we picked Johan’s for our wedding desserts!

Did something change with Johan’s? I’ve been going there for YEARS (seasonally). Just bought a box of miscellaneous donuts. Simply not as good as I remembered. The filling in the jelly donuts is red goo. The apple fritter did not have much apple and even the cinnamon roll…had little cinnamon. Maybe it’s me…For years, I would only allow myself donuts from Johan’s..my occasional cheat. Just doesn’t seem worth it now.
