In my original review, I gave Joey’s a 1 star because the wait times were terrible, the prices were high, and the waitress continuously kept forgetting to bring my fries.
However, I was asked repeatedly to give Joey’s another chance because I had gone on a busy night so I decided that if I can give people a second chance, I can certainly give a restaurant a second chance.
But, once again, this restaurant was BUSY. The difference this time was that I was informed BEFORE I was seated that it would be a minimum of a 40-minute wait for food. This really makes all the difference! I was able to make an informed decision on whether or not I wanted to wait that long for my food and I decided since the staff was upfront and honest with me about the wait, that I would wait it out and see how the rest of my experience went.
Our waitress was friendly and answered questions with patience and courtesy, despite being extremely busy. She checked on us frequently enough that we never went without refills on drinks or felt ignored but not so frequently that it felt intrusive.
The atmosphere was very busy and noisy but that’s to be expected when we knew ahead of time how busy they were. There is a bar area with seating plus a separate dining area with seating.
The restaurant was fairly clean, considering how busy they were and so were the restrooms.
I did feel the prices were a bit high, but the portion sizes were above the norm and made me feel a bit better about the prices.
The pickle chips were delicious, and my baked Italian sub was one of the best that I’ve ever had. The fries were decent, and my guest said the cheese steak bilby was amazing. With the large serving sizes, I got several meals out of mine and everything was just as good being reheated the next day.
I think what really made a big difference to me was being informed beforehand of how busy they were and how long of a wait it would be to get food. This was far better than my first experience here mainly for this reason alone and being able to make an informed decision about whether I wanted to stay or not.
So, my overall opinion of Joey’s in Houtzdale is favorable. Prices are a bit high but the larger than average portion sizes make up for that. The wait staff and being warned of long wait times was great. The atmosphere was crowded and loud but not to the point where you couldn’t enjoy yourself. I recommend checking out Joey’s. The food is definitely worth it!

Amazing pub style restaurant with great food! Never ever been disappointed by Joey’s, not once! My kids ask for Joey’s for their birthday meals lol

Never had a Billby, so I tried the meatball and it was very good. My wife got the BLT which was super sized and Mac and cheese. Drinks and service was exception Al as well. Definitely recommend this place if running through or visiting the Houtzdale area.

Sausage pizza puguch. Delicious. Great service. I also had a salad with the Whitehouse dressing and it was great. I dipped the puguch crust in the dressing too. Can’t wait to get it again.

We order here all the time. Got home and the order was wrong. 1/2 dozen wings instead of a full dozen. Called and they said I’d have to pay for the other half dozen….uhh okay, I had no problem paying for it the first time I ordered it. On top of the fact I left a ten dollar tip on a pick up order. I Got there and basically get told it’s my fault because she read the order back. She did…and it was a full dozen. I get it. Mistakes happen but don’t sit there and try to twist it around back on me. Horrid customer service when it comes to just a simple apology. I had no problem paying for it but at least a straightforward sorry for having to drive there twice would’ve been nice. Not being gaslit into it being my fault

Ever since moving to Pennsylvania I’ve said countless times “Pennsylvania just doesn’t have good food” and joey’s is the only place I’ve eaten that can disprove that statement. The food is delicious and the staff are lovely. If you haven’t been to Joey’s you are missing out.
