Joe’s is the perfect family restaurant !! The menu has something for everyone. Unassuming decor, great service, good food, and a bar !! Soup-of-the-day was hot and delicious, bread basket served without asking, Chicken Sammy was huge, Salad fresh, and sides tasty !!! And large portions that don’t break the bank ! Stop by and enjoy their hospitality…..

I have been here many times over the years. Had brunch two weekends ago which was phenomenal with lovely service and got take out for dinner tonight. Never done that before but everyone was so helpful and sweet as I didn’t know where I was going only ever been on the bar side.

I enjoyed lunch here with a group of four. I had the homemade crab cake sandwich with fries. The sandwich was delicious but the fries were the shoestring type and not my favorite. Others had the meatball sub and a pastrami sandwich which they loved. The peanut butter, key lime, and coconut pies were yummy. Service was fast and friendly.

Sure it’s not your glamour white table cloth Michelin restaurant. But this is all about homey late night eat. Few eateries in Richmond operates this late. The no frill carb heavy menu hits the spot for those had a few extra glasses and missed 9pm dinner cutoff at most downtown food choices… Small but friendly staff with hearty portioned food, this 70+ years old local legend will remain my favorite regardless what my wife thinks !!!!!

A very nice restaurant that started in 1952. It has a warm atmosphere and excellent service. It provides an amazing range of meals for a relatively small Restaurant. The food is excellent and the servings are generous. It is handicap friendly. It has street parking, which can be difficult at peak hours. They do not take reservations.

Love this place! Ate here multiple times. Food is amazing! Appetizers bruschetta & portabella mushroom florentine (large enough for a meal) are out of this world. I always get the spaghetti à la rud because I just can’t see how that dish can be topped by any other! Other family member have tried other dishes & all have been loved. They even have vegan cheese so my vegan daughters love coming here, especially for the eggplant parmesan. I’ve always been too full to try the dessert menu so can’t comment on that. Their portions are HUGE so I get to enjoy the leftovers the next day, too. You can dine on either the “cafe” side which is more family friendly & quieter or the bar side which can get quite loud. Service is very friendly & quick.

Great atmosphere. 2nd time I’ve been there since I am from Georgia and travel up here for business. This time set at a table because the bar was full but Heidi my waitress was amazing. She made sure I had everything I needed and made sure I was very happy. Great to talk to and will definitely be going back because of the service she gave me!!! Even though she was super busy and I was just a table of one she gave me the same service as a table of 5.

Joe’s is a Richmond icon (in the Fan…we’ve never been impressed with the other one…perhaps it’s bias for the original).

The menu for most people is huge but all I see and have gotten for 30 years is the Spaghetti à la Joe with meat sauce. Just get that and take the leftovers, thank me later.

My wife loves the chicken livers (to each his own) and gets those every time anymore. They have all-day breakfast and everything else looks good, but here, I don’t deviate from the best thing on the menu. Although for an appetizer, might I suggest the mozzarella sticks?

It’s the kind of place you’re shocked if you meet anyone that’s lived in Richmond very long that doesn’t know about it, and you always take out of town guests to.

It can get loud and cramped so consider an early dinner or even “linner.” Otherwise you’ll be waiting. Great service any time of day.

Always on our list of, “What sounds good?”

A Fan institution! I grew up going here and the food is always solid. Great bar and awesome selection of draft beers. They also have a quieter side next door with a more formal dining area if the bar atmosphere isn’t your thing. Make sure to bring your appetite if you get the spaghetti though. All of the food is good and they don’t skimp on the portions. They even offer breakfast all day. The food is nothing that’s going to blow you away but it’s alway consistent and leaves you full and happy. Can’t go wrong with anything on the menu. Highly recommend checking this spot out if you haven’t already.
