Informal seafood chain serving crab buckets & stuffed shrimp, plus American comfort dishes.

We went in on a Thursday around 1:00 PM. There was probably one table with people in the whole place. It took a few moments for someone to realize we were there. After we were seated the waiter seemed annoyed we hadn’t ordered yet — almost as if we were disturbing him by coming in. Our food came fairly fast and it was decent, but in my opinion, much overpriced. I think besides the employees having a nonchalant attitude, my main complaint would’ve been an iced tea at $2.99. There’s just no excuse for charging that amount of money for iced tea. It wasn’t gourmet, just regular black tea, no sugar, and a slice of lemon. I think there are better places around for seafood. Probably the most appealing thing about Joe’s Crab Shack is the interior. If you’ve never been I’d recommend going at least once.

We went last night, June 21, 2014. We had about a hour wait to be seated. Which was okay because it was a Saturday night. But I seen at least 3 tables just sitting waiting to be cleaned. There was way to much dancing going on for how busy it was. I also seen many of the waiters and waitresses just standing around. Our waiters name was Drew. He was very excellent and nice. The food was not the best it definitely could’ve been better. Very little food for the price as well. I got the stuffed shrimp and was not pleased at all. Also what was a bit annoying was they played cotton eye joe 5 times within the hour and half we were there. It just isn’t worth it unless you are really wanting crab legs, but then again you can go the a casino and it’s just about adequate. My experience was much better at the Joe’s Crab Shack in Omaha, NE.

We go here every year for our anniversary (My husband and I). We’ve been going here since 2005. We enjoy the service. They are always friendly and playful. Comparatively I think the prices are actually very good for what you get. Plus the food is always delicious. Aside from the corn on the cob and potatoes that come with the crab daddy feast. They tend to be a bit bland. But no one orders that for the veggies. They order it for the crab.

I am not one to fill out surveys or leave feedback, even IF the service was great. BUT this experience was terrible. Where does one begin? First, we stood waiting for a hostess, which when she finally came was less than enthusiastic (which I really don’t care, but she is the first impression) and unceremoniously dumped us at a table without so much as a “welcome to Joe’s”. It went downhill from there. Our server started off with a great smile and hello, but that was as good as it got. Appetizer showed up about a minute before the main course did, no silverware was supplied. When the food was dropped off (and that is exactly what happened) we were not asked if there was anything else we would need. Um, yeah we need silverware and oh how about the crab cracking gear necessary. Yeah, thanks. And refills, forget about. I think the kitchen was a black hole for our server. She’d ask if we needed anything and it was 10 minutes before we got what we asked for or even had to re-ask. I could go on about how no one looked particularly happy to be working, but what would be the point? Needless to say, this was a poor experience and if it indicates the true culture of this place, I for one will not be coming back. Which is kind of ironic, since this was my very first time ever coming to Joe’s.

Seems like Joe’s Crab Shack has accepted its own decline. I am not entirely sure why we keep going back, but about once a year we get a wild hair and are disappointed. The atmosphere is not what it was a decade ago for sure, with most of the kitsch gone (which I think is contributing to the harshly loud environment) and dust somehow more evident. The service, at various mid-west locations, is…stretched, for lack of a better word. As it seems like the servers do what they can, are not impolite or anything but perhaps are just worn thin. As food and drink is consistently slow to table. The crab is decent enough for the middle states, but the company is obviously filling up the options with filler items and skimping on edible crustaceans. Plenty of other things scream to me that the company is cutting costs on things in general and it feels like it is getting worse. I feel like this whole brand is on the way down and out unless something crazy happens to inject it with new life.

I should have heeded to the review written by Travis two weeks ago. We went last night to celebrate my son’s birthday. We called as we were leaving to see about reservations and call ahead seating. We were told that reservations were only accepted 6 hours in advance and that they only do call ahead seating when there is already a wait. Fine. When we got there about 25 minutes later, we were told it would be a 30 minute wait. I politely said we had called and was told there was no wait therefore they would not take our name. The hostess laughed at said yea, we got busy right after you called. There were about 4 parties ahead of us. However, more than half of the tables in the restaurant were empty. We finally got seated and ordered our meals. The rest of our group got their food after about a 20 minute wait. The waitress said that the manager was working on mine. About 10 minutes into their meal, the manager stopped by the table to see how the food was. Everyone said fine and my daughter said but she is still waiting on hers (pointing to me). The manager rushed off to the kitchen and about 10 minutes later showed up with my food. Meanwhile, everyone else was nearly done. Both my son and I ordered a steam pot, both of which arrived to us cold.
Service was just ok. We left the waitress the customary 20% tip simply because it was obvious she was new and she had no control of the inaccuracies of the kitchen.

Had had an amazing experience at this Joe’s Crab Shack our waitress katherine was very sweet and attentive. Me and my hubby went and shared the classic Joe’s steampot. It was more than enough food for both of us to eat the crab was delicious, the cocktail we shared was amazing and of course we got shrimp , potatoes, and corn as well which was very good. Oh and we also got sausage. All over a great experience , there was no wait to be seated and our waitress made sure to check on us every five minutes would definitely recommend anybody.

Great atmosphere fun and energetic. When ordering crab legs they were under size so I felt I did not get my moneys worth. There is usually a dance during your dining but the stereo was broke.

From start to finish.
Walked in the door with my pregnant wife and we were ignored until a girl looking at the table setup nodded at us to follow her to a table. She never spoke or welcomed us.
Sat for 5 minutes before a nervous individual in training asked us for our drink order. He told us he was in training and that our server would be with us shortly. Table was dirty and had a grimy film on it.
Drinks showed up and he asked us again when he arrived what we had asked for to be sure he was correct. 20 minutes passes until the server finally comes for our order. He apologized for the wait (they were at less than half capacity with ample servers). He took our order and went to input it. My wife’s salad was brought out by a different server. She asked him for silverware because neither the hostess nor our servers had provided any. He brought her a fork. The trainee brought some food to our table asking us if it was ours, it wasn’t. He stopped by again apologizing and asking us again what we ordered. He didn’t take our order originally.
Our food finally arrives and looks alright. The server dropped it off and ran back to the kitchen without any words. Still no silverware, but luckily we ordered all finger food and dealt with it. The trainee swung by asking us if we needed anything and I asked for a refill. As he took my cup he put his finger into it to carry it back to the machine. I got my refill though.
The food was very greasy, minimal amount for the price I was paying and lackluster in flavor. How they made fried food mediocre is beyond me.
I stacked up our plates to ease cleanup and waited for someone to come by. 5 minutes later the trainee asked us if we needed anything and I asked for the check. He brought it, I asked if they provided a military discount (they do and the only plus of the meal), and I paid. We left and both agreed Long John Silvers across the street or back home in Topeka would have been a much better option.
My opinion is that the “no tipping” has made the wait staff lazy and the food is just not being quality controlled at all. A good experience with mediocre food would still get 15-20% tip from me. Rough service still gets 5-10%. There would have been no tip given to my server for this meal.

An hour wait which would not have been unreasonable if there hadn’t been open tables. Wait staff was tired and run ragged…according to one water most of them work 12-14 hour shifts friday, sat AND sunday. Our food left a lot to be desired…kids checked dippers were over cooked and unappetizing ..and portions were skimpy even for a,kids meal
My daughter, who is,21, ordered chicken strips and somehow the waiter ended up bringing her a kids meal..he complained that he was going to have to eat the cost, but he eventually brought her the right dinner (after the rest of us were about done) it was the same lame looking chicken the boys got, a couple hush puppies and a few froes. Definetly not worth the money. On the bright side the shrimp dinner and my crab cake salad were good.
I doubt that were much that I will return…I guess it’s going to be red lobster next time we are craving get seafood.
