I wish I could give JJ Fish & Chicken in Hammond, Indiana, zero stars. Our experience there was absolutely horrendous from start to finish. First, the fish they served us was clearly old—slimy, smelly, and completely unappetizing. It was disgusting and unsafe to eat. As if that wasn’t bad enough, the fried chicken we ordered was raw in the middle. Yes, raw. Not undercooked—raw. It was as though they didn’t even bother to check if it was properly cooked before sending it out.
When we called to bring up these serious issues, we were met with a nasty attitude from the staff. There wasn’t a hint of remorse or customer service. Instead of offering a refund or making us fresh food, they suggested we bring the disgusting food back so they could refry it. Refry raw chicken and slimy fish? Are you kidding me? The lack of accountability and basic decency was appalling.
We couldn’t risk eating any of it, and in the end, we had to throw the entire order in the trash. It was a complete waste of money. The combination of bad food, poor hygiene, and terrible customer service made this one of the worst dining experiences we’ve ever had. Do yourself a favor and avoid this place at all costs—you deserve better than old, unsafe food and a staff that clearly doesn’t care about their customers.

I called in and placed my order forna jumbo shrimp. The food was ready in 10 mins. I thought the jumbo could’ve been a Little bigger, but no biggie. Food was fresh and fulfilling. Service was good. Everyone was pleasant.

I went in here at 5:30 on a Wednesday and was told they had no sandwiches (out of all bread) and the staff was friendly enough but the restaurant was a mess (floor was filthy, trash overflowing, tables not cleared, tables with no chairs) and it was empty in there, not a customer before or during my 15 minute visit. No reason for the place to look like this. The food (boneless chicken fingers) was actually pretty good!. I will say that the prices were reasonable too so not all bad.

Never went to this location and I just happened to be called to fix their door. I get calls out to a lot of restaurants including a couple JJ’s and this location specifically has the cleanest kitchen and best chicken I’ve had from a JJ’s definitely recommend 100%. The staff was super polite too. All around great spot!

I just left there and my catfish is still pink and unseasoned and my order was waiting on me when I got there. I called the guy put his manager on the phone …the manager said I ordered catfish nuggets and I didn’t! This explains why my fish ia crumbly and poorly picked! I told the manager my cat fish is still pink! He then asked me again what was the problem! Prime reason why these establishments should not be in certain communities !

These people definitely don’t want to be bothered. The cashier was very short and rude and practically threw my food at me even though I was polite. He treated every black customer rudely the duration I was there. My first and last time coming here. I won’t be giving my hard earned money to these rude people anymore.

Rude , Unprofessional, lady said you’re on hold and then proceeded to put the phone down when pick the phone back up. I placed my order. She had then proceeded to put the phone down again and walked off, then came back and hooked up the phone. These events happen today sidenote chicken wings are very little not the same before changed their vendor go to a different JJ’s.

Called in a simple 6 wing and Okra. The associate on the phone said to give it 15 minutes. Arrived 20 minutes later and the food still wasn’t ready. Waited another 10 minutes. In addition there is a pungent weird odor as soon as you come in. Be prepared to wait. Chicken was good at least

Awesome place, friendly staff, fresh food cooked to order. Clean dining room and plenty choices for desert. Definitely worth the money. Will absolutely be back.
