Jim’s Steak House

  4.4 – 890 reviews   • Steak house

Over half a century ago, Jim’s Steak House was started in Peoria. It built its reputation on the finest quality beef available. That beef was dry-aged, a time consuming and expensive operation indulged in by only a few, and only the finest restaurants nationwide. Steak and rib-roasts were then prepared with expert care and subtle seasoning to produce a meal of substantial proportions to meet the most demanding connoisseurs and gourmets. It was through these practices that Jim’s Steak House developed its unrivaled reputation for the finest steaks and prime rib anywhere.

When choosing to dine at a place like Jim’s, the experience should stand out just as much as the food. We waited 15 minutes or so on someone to greet our table and order drinks, and almost an hour on soup and salad. We were told the owner likes to make the wedges and they were backed up. When we finally received my husband’s appetizer wedge, we were shocked that none of it had been cut up (I understand trying to achieve unique plating) but you’re telling me that you can’t train someone to throw an entire green onion stalk, whole piece of bacon, and a few veggies on a plate so we’re not waiting so long? It’s just a weird thing to hold on to as an owner or chef if it’s going to ruin the experience for your customers. My soup was only warm at that point, not hot.

20 minutes later we got 2 rolls, not 4, because they had just run out. No one ever brought us fresh ones to the table.

And I made the mistake of ordering a beef and bleu salad for my main, which had an equivalent wait. 1 hour and 45 minutes into being at our table and missing the start of the event we had planned afterwards, we finally flagged someone down to ask for our check who went to the kitchen and our waitress magically appeared with our dinner a minute later. Our steaks were cooked well, but were not warm or fresh.

Our waitress wasn’t rude, but wasn’t attentive, communicative, or apologetic.

We love the ambiance, the food is decent, but the experience is not worth your time and money.

My daughter and I visited your establishment yesterday, October 23rd, for my birthday dinner. Upon inquiring about the soup of the day, our waitress informed us it was steak and mushroom. I specifically asked if it contained pork, and she confirmed it did not. Both my daughter and I ordered the soup. As we began to consume it, my daughter identified the presence of pork, prompting us to immediately cease eating due to our allergies to pork products.

I sought assistance from a nearby waiter as our assigned waitress was unavailable. He promptly apologized for the error and removed our soups, subsequently having our waitress return to our table. She apologized for her oversight regarding the soup’s ingredients and offered replacement salads.

Today, October 24th, my daughter is experiencing severe stomach cramps, which we attribute to the bacon she inadvertently consumed. Fortunately, I only ingested a sip of the broth and did not consume any solid components.

We had a group of 8 that ate here on a recent Saturday evening. We made a reservation so no wait for a table. The food was mostly very good but we had one person whose steak was a bit overdone and we had trouble getting much service from our server. Although it was busy it wasn’t jam packed. We simply didn’t see our server much and when it took 20 minutes for our server to bring back our paid checks we all began wondering why? We were at that point the last table still in the restaurant part. And if you’ve never been be advised it’s loud there. We couldn’t talk with the people across our table of 8. We were fine with that but some might not be.
So, really good food, mostly, but not overly good service. Doubtful we’ll back as there are better choices for fine dining at this price point.

Old school classic American steakhouse. Was shocked on how affordable the appetizers were. Seriously have paid more at casual dining spots for apps. High quality tried and true dishes. Menu lacked innovation but honestly I think that’s point here. 65 years of independent greatness. My 16z NY Strip had great sear and was seasoned perfectly. Service team was authentically themselves while delivering a great experience.

Came to celebrate my wife and I four year anniversary && it was absolutely amazing. Susan was our waitress and she was probably one of the best waitresses I’ve ever had at any restaurant in this city. She was busy but she didn’t let that stop her from making sure our meal was amazing from the time we set down to the time we left. We did their Friday night date night dinner and it was so good. The bruschetta was so good the onions the tomato on the warm crusty bread was so tasty. Their salads were cold and crisp. The bread was baked perfect. And the steak and potatoes oh my goodness compliments to the chef because it was one of the best meals I’ve had that I didn’t cook.
I really enjoyed the entire evening and it made our anniversary that more special. Can’t wait to come back and eat again.

We had 5:30 reservations on New Year’s Eve for 2. After being seated promptly, our waitress greeted us, brought beverages and took our order. We ordered the crab stuffed mushrooms and received the appetizer at least 30 – 40 minutes later. The salad and bread was served 20 minutes later. I had to ask when our main dishes would be served because it was taking so long. I waited and waited for my water to be refilled (it was my only beverage). I finally had to get up and take a fresh glass of water from an empty table. The waitress was kind enough to offer free dessert for our long wait. We took the dessert home as it was 7:30 and we had other plans. Here is the thing: We were told “well, it is a busy night and a bus boy did not show up”. A large part of dining at your restaurant is the Experience. I expect excuses from chain restaurants not from a fine dining establishment.

This was our first time at this Steakhouse in Peoria as we normally go to the Bloomington location.
The food was fantastic as always and the service was great!
The only thing that made me raise an eyebrow is why we had to pay extra money for their house Brittany salad dressing?
