There’s definitely a crowd at Jim’s but the line does move fast. I guess a favorite place amongst the locals and tourists.

Personally, the cheesesteak fully loaded with mince beef was a bit bland and dry/over-cooked even though we added the onions and provolone. Had to add some flavor on our own some salt pepper which are available on the seating places. Good thing is they have plenty of seating place on two floors.

4 stars for 4 reasons

1. Overall, the Philly cheesesteak wasn’t bad but it certainly wasn’t the best. It’s still good don’t get me wrong but def can be better.

2. The price wasn’t bad at all 13.49 per sandwhich.

3. Lines formed but it was relativiely fast!

4. Staff here were nice

Minus 1 star for 1 reason

1. The meat could be seasoned a bit more! Add salt and it will taste much better.

This place always has a good line going, and now we understand why. We ordered two cheesesteaks — they load it up with two layers of cheese (cheese → steak → more cheese ), plus we added hot peppers which helped cut the richness and brought the flavor to the next level.

The taste? Exactly what we love in a Philly cheesesteak — cheesy, savory, and super satisfying.

Our only tiny complaints:

The steak was chopped really fine — we prefer a bit more texture.

The bread was a little too soft for us.

Still, we totally get the hype and would come back again. A must-try spot if you’re exploring South Street!

The cheesesteaks were just okay; they’d be better if the bread wasn’t so tough on the bottom. Also, we didn’t realize we had to ask for mayo – we thought it came with it. We didn’t find out until we got back to the hotel that it was dry without any mayo, so we had to go searching for some because we couldn’t eat it otherwise. And yeah, it really sucks that they’re cash only, but there is an ATM inside. When I asked the tall cashier lady if she could tell the guy making the food to add lettuce and tomatoes, she said it would be better if I went back and did it myself, even though there were a few people behind us.

So, came in to Philly for work for a few days, so of course I wanted to make sure I tried a Phillies Chees Steak…When in Rome, Right…but where? Everyone Knows Gino’s and Pat’s, they are the originals, but are they the best? There are so many options here, so, I asked the people that know… the Philadelphia locals, and time after time the same name kept coming up…Jim’s, Jim’s, Jim’s. Jim’s South street was the overall dominant consensus. So we went for lunch, and they did not let us down. Place is very clean, very modern in a great location…but without question the most important is the food, specially here, the Phillies Cheesstrak was great. And to add the team was awesome. They were very friendly, very accommodating, and they pushed you in the right direction on what you should order. So if you are visiting Philly and want to know just where to go for a great cheese steak, or you are a local and never went to Jim’s, I strongly recommend that you pop in and give them a try…recommend 100,000,000%

We tried Jim’s South Street in Philadelphia and ordered both the cheesesteak and the pepper steak. The cheesesteak was definitely our favourite; next time, I’ll stick with that for sure.

The restaurant has a classic, no-frills vibe, full of pictures of old times and celebrities, which adds to its authentic Philly charm. The staff weren’t very friendly, but watching how they prepare the sandwiches and the whole process was really enjoyable. If you’re looking for a real, authentic Philly cheesesteak, this is a must-visit spot.

Great cheesesteak and very generous with the beef! I got a whiz cheesesteak and watch them freshly cook the beef in front of me. The bread was soft, and the beef was delicious. However there should’ve be more cheese with it. The lady who picked up the phone when I called to ask questions was also kind of rude. And the indoor seating was dirty. There should be someone to clean the tables regularly.

Was recommended this spot by a local relative. Thankfully I stopped here because it was incredible! Ordered with wiz and onions.

After I got the sandwich and sat down to eat I thought there was no way I could finish it. When I took the first bite I noticed how soft and fresh the bread was. Before I knew it, I had inhaled the entire cheesesteak!

Not just the best cheesecake I’ve ever had, Jim’s South St. has probably the best sandwich I’ve ever eaten! Kudos for the quality and consistency. Loved the upstairs area as well, the mosaics are really cool.

Side note: When I was flying out of Philly, I saw that Jim’s has a restaurant in the airport as well. I couldn’t help myself and tried one more. While not as good as the original obviously, it was still an amazing sandwich.

Stopped by Jim’s South St. after it was recommended by both a coworker and a friend. The staff was friendly and welcoming right away, and our food came out pretty fast which is always a plus.

My girl and I shared a cheesesteak with mushrooms and onions. Overall it was good. Not the best cheesesteak I have ever had, but still solid and satisfying. One small letdown was the mushrooms, which looked more like canned mushrooms than fresh.

They do have a chili powder on the side you can add to your sandwich, which was a cool touch and helped give the cheesesteak a little extra kick and uniqueness.

The place itself feels well run and very clean with an old school Motown diner vibe. The bathrooms were surprisingly updated and spotless, which honestly says a lot about an establishment.

All in all, Jim’s South St. is a dependable stop on South Street with good service, a clean space, and a solid cheesesteak. Worth checking out, especially if you are in the area.

Jim’s is our go to place for Philly Cheese Steaks. The reign far above the others! We always order ours “wit” Philly speak for with onions. Of course, we get the with Whiz. Be sure to order them with dried peppers if you desire. You will love it!
