Reviews
I just visited Jimmy’s Ice Cream in East Stroudsburg, and I was blown away by the amazing selection of fresh, creamy ice cream and water ice! The water ice is particularly notable for its smooth texture – no chunky bits here! The staff took great care in making each treat, and you can really taste the difference.
As a local favorite, Jimmy’s Ice Cream is the go-to spot for both ice cream and water ice. Be prepared for a crowd, especially on weekend evenings when it becomes the hot spot in town. But trust me, it’s worth the wait! If you’re looking for a delicious, high-quality treat that’s made with love and care, Jimmy’s is the place to be.
After going to this place three times in the last few weeks we noticed somehow we pay just as much as everyone else but some where in the middle we get less ice cream. Always the same order medium soft serve peanuts and brownies, with two small milk shakes or a large one. Before these 3 times there were other girls always smiling, very polite and made really nice orders, what you expect really when you pay so much for soft serve. But the last 3 visits have just been unaceptable, I am not saying the ice cream should be towering of my cup but do not try to sell me a small for medium either, not cool. Sadly we will not be returning to this place anymore. I am not one to write about everything but sometimes 3 times is once to many.
It is with heavy hearts that we, Chuck and Laurel, must inform you of a significant and deeply emotional change. Jimmy’s Ice Cream on Crystal Street—a beloved fixture and community mainstay in East Stroudsburg-will cease operations at our current location effective today.
My wife, Laurel, and I have had the immense privilege of owning, operating, and cultivating the East Stroudsburg location since its inception, building it into the establishment you have come to know and love. We truly had no desire to close and intended to continue serving the East Stroudsburg and ESU community for years to come.
Unfortunately, despite our position that we exercised an option for automatic lease renewal, our landlord, Mr. James Ferraro (owner of Gabel’s and Lewis’s Ice Cream), disputed this and issued us a notice to vacate. He also sadly ghosted us before pickle fest in Oct and stopped selling us/delivering gelato. While our first inclination was to challenge the action, the business relationship has become irreparably damaged. We have worked with legal counsel to establish an exit date of no later than December 31, 2025.
As part of the lease termination, we are required to transfer the business name “Jimmy’s Ice Cream” to Mr. Ferraro. There was no compensation for the significant goodwill we developed over the years. Given the communications from the landlord, we believe he plans to reopen an ice cream parlor at the Crystal Street location.
We want to make one thing absolutely clear: If Jimmy’s Ice Cream on Crystal Street reopens in 2026, it will not be the store you know and love, run by Laurel, Chuck, and our incredible staff.
While the physical location and name are involved in this transition, the most heartbreaking impact is on our people. We currently employ over 20 part-time employees —all talented students from ESU, South, and Stroudsburg High Schools. Since opening, we have employed over 200 local students, who we consider an extended family. Seeing the disruption this causes for these hardworking young adults, many of whom have worked with us for four years or more, is the most disheartening aspect of this entire development.
We also take immense pride in the substantive ways we have supported our community, including:
Raising and donating over $50,000 to ESU athletics over the past seven years.
Hosting countless fundraisers for South and Stroudsburg High Schools.
Sponsoring special events and causes, especially in women’s athletics at ESU.
We want to give a special thanks to our friends in the ESU coaching community-Jimmy Twig, the legendary Denny Douds, Jaime Wolbach, Xeni, Meg, and all the rest. And a very special shout-out to Coach Mia Macaluso, who worked for us as an ESU student and is now an assistant female wrestling coach at ESU. we consider her a very close friend and a special person.
Our Future: The Spirit of Our Business Lives On
Rumors of our complete demise are, thankfully, premature.
We are currently making plans for a return in a similar, community-friendly venture! The name will change, but the foundation of what made our business strong—our commitment to quality, community, and our people will remain. We believe our customers will recognize the true continuation of the business we built on Crystal Street.
We look forward to sharing details about our new business and location very shortly, where we intend to keep offering ice cream and even more. Rest assured, the relationships and community causes we support-such as the Pocono Cinema-will continue to receive our time and resources.
The friends we have made, the lives we have touched, and the friendships we have forged in this community are what truly matter. In closing, we both want to say that what you put into this world — the respect you show, the example you set, and the way you conduct yourselves-matters very much. Merry Christmas and do good things in 2026.
Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts, for your years of loyal support.
Sincerely,
Chuck and Laurel
Not sure how so many good reviews? Was really looking forward to it.
