Social Profile:

Jimmy Buff’s of 14th Ave. & 9th St. in Newark, NJ is where the hotdog with an Italian twist was first concocted by the founder James Bluff Racioppi in 1932. Grandpa got his nickname from his style at the card table. Translation from Italian to English came up with the nickname BUFF. In the 20s and 30s everyone had a nickname and hence James Racioppi became known as Jimmy Buff. The sandwich was first served as a treat by the Racioppi’s for close friends and relatives. It went over so big with them it became the center of their menu and ultimately a customer favorite. The fresh onions, peppers, and potatoes combines with a hot dog is what allows the speciality its claim to originality.

No-frills outpost specializing in Italian hot dogs with all the trimmings in counter-serve settings.

I have been hearing for a long time about this place, and finally I had a chance to make a trip here to see for myself what all the hullabaloo was about. I was very pleased with what I experienced. When you look at the menu board for the first time, you might tend to get confused; surely that be the prices. But when I saw my “single” hot dog up front and in the plate, my reaction turned into ” That’s not a dog, it’s a three course meal”. It was a good sized dog, served in a soft Italian roll, slathered with peppers, onions, and piled so high with potato rounds, it was just hard to finish. Fortunately I was able to get the rest of my order to go, thanks to the wonderful, accommodating staff, and I was on my way to my next destination, resolute that if I ever have like a half day to get back here (If you’ve read my profile, you’ll find that I do all my travel without a car, so it takes a while for me to get around), I most definitely will be back. Jimmy Buff’s has won me over.

Start with the dog. Snappy and tasty. Peppers potatoes and onions cooked to perfection. Pizza bread robust enough to keep it all together.

Worth the drive! The original Italian Hot Dog/Sausage sandwich is exactly as advertised. You can get a double a single or even a mix. Then they pack with onions and peppers and potatoes. It’s a great stop if in the area.

I will start by saying that in this day and age it is difficult to find places that provide excellent customer service, quality products, and great value for the money. I have watched this place on television many times and have wanted to try them out and I was finally able to do that yesterday. I have to say that this place is awesome. Not only was the food great, but the customer service was awesome. From start to finish the staff were helpful, friendly, and made everyone feel like they actually mattered. I know that there are many places to get a hot dog, but this is not just a hotdog. It is a meal consisting of delcious Italian bread, fresh cut potatoes, and of course a hot dog or sausage. I tried both and I only wish that I could visit the place more often to enjoy this delicious meal that is well worth the price and the trip. If you are looking for a great way to spend your hard earned money on a meal then I would highly recommend this place. I hope they never change their attitude or the quality and value of their food. Keep up the great work!!!

Hot dogs served in pizza bread with onions and pepper then topped with a mountain of potatoes. These “hot dogs” were the size of my partners face. Paired with some Joe’s lemonade and you’ve got the perfect combo. We made the trek from Jersey City and I have to say it was worth it!

Awesome lunch today at my first visit. I ride motorcycles around the tri-state area looking for a good dog. This place did not disappoint . Definitely top 5 Italian Hot Dog in the area. Workers and locals were very friendly. It’s also great to have off street parking in this area.

I think I have had my fill, food is usually good, but the last couple of times I’ve been there I requested my burger and steak rare because it has been overcooked. I am not a fan of dried meat. Do better. With inflation, I should be able to get what I ask for.
