Service was great, atmosphere exactly what you’d expect, the bbq wasn’t exactly what I was expecting. The pulled pork didn’t seem like it is smoked in house, or at a minimum not very smokey and it’s pre-sauced worth too much sauce so you can’t really taste the meat. As for the bbq beef, I did ask if it was brisket and was warmed it wasn’t, but to say it’s bbq, it was more reminiscent of roast beef. A good roast beef!, but still didn’t have that good smoke to it or any bark yo speak of to bring in that bbq flavor.

The side sides were pretty good, hush puppies were well cooked, fried okra was fried okra, Mac and cheese was just fine. Portions were good and I split the two meat platter with another adult and we were both full for a good price.

Would I go back? Maybe, but I’d order something else. Is it necessarily gold medal bbq? Not so much, but it’s not bad food.

The best oak smoked pulled pork I’ve ever had. Their sauce is also very good, is both thinner and different than anything I’ve had before, and they make it themselves.

Jimbo’s began in Lakeland in 1964 and has been at the same location in Tampa since 1970…yet the owner Janelda is on-premise and very hands on. She doesn’t sit on her high throne and lord over the staff like so many other successful restaurant owners do…and I appreciate that.

Janelda is to the left in the picture, with Andrea, one of the servers. The large chopped pork sandwich I had is shown in the other picture, and it comes with a hush puppy and a small sample of their coleslaw.

Definitely recommend coming here for lunch or dinner! Food and service was great. The pickles were fantastic if you like pickles like i do and to wash it down with Some good old southern style sweet tea.

Living in St Petersburg, but working in Tampa, only gives me an opportunity to try new places during lunch time. And my lunch trip here was well worth to time.
Good size portions of everything. Homemade taste for the sides. Their own hush puppies and I had the ribs. Personally, I like the smoke taste. First time I try new BBQ, I skip the sauce on the first part and this time it was just right. Not too heavy or light. I did try some sauce on another rib, and the smoke worked well with the sauce too. The ribs were meaty and overall the whole meal was just right. Plenty of seating, good parking, and great servers rounded out the trip. Enjoy!

Two out of 5 stars. Feel bad giving this rating. But this barbecue is just mediocre. I don’t know if it’s a different style that I’m not used to but I was not impressed at all. I have eaten here twice. Had the pork sandwich they recommended the first time and the burger this last time. And the burger seem to be a pre-formed patty that they heated up on the skillet. I’ve had a few different sides and never impressed with any of those. And would not recommend anybody spending their time coming here. I do not know how this place has four and a half stars on Google. The customer service was great and the staff as well. Our waitress was actually a vegan which was pretty hilarious. She was a great server!

We heard about this place being one of the oldest BBQ places in the area. We went ahead and split a three meat dinner (Ribs, pulled pork and smoked sausage w/coleslaw, fries, and the hush puppies). The wife loved the sausage, I enjoyed the pulled pork. The ribs were good, a bit on the dry side, though. The fries were good and crispy, but the hush puppies are kind of bland and dry. The staff was very friendly too. Overall, if you haven’t been, I say give it a shot. It was more of a one and done for us.

Had a very nice time here! The brisket was hot, smoky and sweet, with all the portions being huge and plentiful! Firstly, they bring out a dish of sliced dill pickles- huge thumbs up there! Great hush puppies, baked beans and cole slaw! You’ll be quite full once you leave, if you can leave…

I was surprised at how much we like this place. The BBQ sauce was everything. The food was good and the service was excellent. Old school BBQ is how I would describe it. Good
