I ordered the pulled pork sandwich, my wife tried the brisket chili, and our daughter had the kids’ mac and cheese. Everything was fine overall, but the standout item was definitely the fresh, warm cheese biscuit, which was easily the highlight of the meal.
One positive moment was when the owner/manager stopped by our table to ask how everything was. My wife mentioned that the brisket in her chili was pretty fatty, and he took the feedback seriously, saying he’d follow up with the kitchen. That kind of interaction really stands out in a good way.
Service was smooth, our wait to order wasn’t long, and the staff stayed attentive.
The only real downside was the volume of the music. It was loud enough that we had to raise our voices to talk to each other at the table, which took away from the otherwise relaxed atmosphere.
Good food, great biscuits, friendly staff; just turn the music down a notch and it’d be an easy 5.
The BBQ is fantastic and from what I have had their sides are amazing. You won’t go wrong coming here.
Brisket is very good marbled. I think I was their at closing. They weren’t too interested in helping clean up the top of my drink spilled halfway and everything and me got soaked. Not too happy about 4 servers doing nothing to help me. Could have been more attentive. I was the only one there and I spent 40.00s for one person but it will last me 3 days I think…a bit pricey for sure but the marbled brisket and corn muffins were delicious
I recently tried the new Jim ‘N Nick’s location in Hendersonville, Tennessee, hoping for some solid Southern BBQ. I’ve heard good things about the chain overall, but this experience left me frustrated and questioning if it’s worth the hype – especially at these prices. Spoiler: I won’t be going back.
Let’s start with the main event: the spare ribs. I ordered 3 lbs thinking it’d be a hearty meal for the family, but at $34, it felt like highway robbery. For that price, you’re basically paying for bones. Each pound yields maybe 1 oz of actual edible meat – the rest is bone, fat, and trim waste. The trimmings (those end bits) were a joke: tiny scraps no taller than my thumb and smaller around than my palm. They looked like leftovers someone swept off the cutting board, not something you’d serve paying customers. The ribs themselves had decent smoke and sauce, but they were dry in spots. Not fall-off-the-bone tender like good spares should be.
On the side, I grabbed the deviled eggs (4 halves for $5). These were actually the highlight – creamy filling, nice dusting, and a good tangy bite. Probably the only thing I’d order again if I was forced to return. But $5 for what amounts to two eggs’ worth? Come on, that’s gas-station pricing for something homemade-tasting.
Portions overall were stingy across the board. The takeout container shocked me at first glance, it felt like i was holding one of them sampler trays they pass out at Costco or Sam’s club to try to see if you like before you order, it’s mostly air and bone. For a “new” spot trying to make a name in Hendersonville, this feels lazy and greedy. There are better local BBQ joints nearby (shoutout to places like Whitt’s or even Costco ribs for value) that don’t charge premium prices for subpar execution.
**Pros:**
– Deviled eggs were tasty
– Sauce had a nice tang
**Cons:**
– Insanely overpriced ($34 for 3 lbs of mostly bone?)
– Tiny, scrap-like trimmings
– Inconsistent rib quality
– Small portions for the cost
Rating: 2/5 stars. Jim ‘N Nick’s might work in other locations, but this Hendersonville outpost needs to step up or lower prices. Save your money and grill at home – you’ll get more meat for less hassle. Definitely not returning.
(Photos attached for proof – check out those sad little rib scraps and the “generous” 4 dollar sides btw and deviled eggs that cost as much as a fast-food meal.)
OK. First of all the service was exceptional. Everyone was happy and super friendly. Unfortunately my silverware was really dirty and I had to get a replacement. I dont mean waterspots. I mean chunk of food still on the knife. Otherwise the restaurant was clean and pleasant.
I have good things to say about all of the food except one thing. I ordered the mixed platter with 3 meats. Brisket, Pulled pork and cheddar jalapeño sausage. My sides were cold slaw and macaroni.
First the bad. The brisket offers you a choice of marbled (Texans call this moist) or the lean. I chose marbled hoping for a more moist brisket. Sadly this disappointed. It was tender and overall the flavor was fine but it was still a bit overcooked and ultimately it was dry. No juices flowed from.this piece of meat. Contrasting this to Shotgun Willie’s and there’s s clear winner. Id pick SW for brisket every time. Its not bad and honestly it’s better than most brisket I’ve had in nashville, but it still felt dry to me. Also the portion sizes were a bit on the small side. It was enough food but for the price and the upcharge for brisket I would expect a bit more than what looked like leftover scraps on my tray.
Now the good. Everything else on my plate was delicious. The sides were great. The little complimentary cheddar biscuits were a favorite. I lived the coleslaw. It was a nice balance of texture and flavors. The pulled pork was moist and flavorful and I loved the sauces they had. (Try the Carolina mustard. Its delicious) my favorite thing was the sausage. Moist, flavorful, and gushing with delicious cheese.
Im glad this restaurant opened. I will be eating here regularly. The food is good and honestly id even order and enjoy the brisket on occasion. I look firward to trying some of the other offerings. Definitely worth checking out.
