Had to stop by and check it out when we saw the name. We loved the “Beverly Hillbillies.” We had the family meal for 2, with the 1/2 slab, brisket, and burnt ends. Also had the smoked wings as appetizers, and for the sides, we had cole slaw, fried pickles, salad, and green beans. Our waitress was super attentive and nice. Sports bar atmosphere, not crazy loud, very nice. Our food was very good. Highly recommend the wings, green beans, corn bread, and ribs. Brisket was tasty but a bit dry. The burnt ends were good, just too much sauce, and also very small portion, especially since you upcharge $2 for the ends and another $2 for the brisket. All the sauces were good and hard to decide a favorite. We highly recommend and would return. We might have just caught an off night for the brisket and ends.

I am from Colorado and I first visited Jethro’s on Drake University campus back in 2006. My son was attending college there, and we just had to try Jethro’s BBQ. We have been hooked on it since… This place not only creates amazing BBQ, but they also are very customer focused. I recently visited my brother-in-law in Osage, IA and had the privilege of interfacing with multiple AMAZING customer focused Jethro Employees. The first was Fernando Lara. I developed a paprika allergy within the last two years, and so I contacted Fernando who took the time to research their entire menu to alert me ahead of my visit of the items that contain paprika. The second contact was actually our outstanding server, Tara, at their Ankeny, IA location. Tara took care of my entire crew (there were 8 of us…). Finally, I had the BEST follow-up experience with Sarah Huffman in Corporate Operations. Her genuine niceness and willingness to assist me was unmatched. Such a classic in Des Moines!! Jethro’s you can’t go wrong. People hate on it, but it’s so good! Been going since college. I love the turkey melt – add bbq sauce! My mom got the pulled pork and my nephew got the bbq burger. The waffle fries are amazing! So good!!!

So what exactly is a Family Platter? For husband, wife and two kids? When the Johnston location was open, you got a platter big enough to feed your family. I just ordered a Family Platter from this location, and it may have fed my wife and I (see photo). I was good with the half rack of ribs and four small sides, but three slices of brisket and maybe a sandwich’s worth of pulled pork? West Des Moines location was the same way. Just rename it from “Family Platter” to “A Couple’s Platter.” Not worth it anymore. Going to find another worthy BBQ place for the Family!

All I can say is delicious. We stopped here on the way to PA. We ordered the wings and it was so good. We also had the family platter and the ribs were amazing but I wasn’t a fan of the brisket because it was a little cold but my husband loved it. Waffles fries are everything!!!!!!! We ordered 3 sides of it, thanks to our waitress lily for being so kind with the demand of waffle fries. Overall service was fast and really friendly.

The restaurant was pretty cool. We went there because we had seen it on Man vs. Food. Well the food was ok. I’m from N. Carolina so I ordered the Carolina pulled pork and it wasn’t really Carolina pulled pork. It didn’t have vinegar type bbq sauce on it or didn’t taste like it. It just taste like taste regular pit cooked pork. It was tender and good, but didn’t taste no different then any other. The fries were good and cole slaw was good. My husband asked for “wet ribs” and all they did was take the dry ribs and squirter them with sauce. Hell he could have that himself. They were dry. They didn’t have enough fat on them. Like I said they were ok. x 2

Service and atmosphere was super nice, our waitress was very sweet, we got the 12 ounce steak, basic cheeseburger, waffle fries, queso & chips, mashed potatoes, mac & cheese and potato salad. Steak and queso were good, the burger was very plain and didn’t taste very well, all of the sides were very bland.
