JERSEY MIKES. It’s always my go to late night meal after a long double work day. But sadly I won’t be tipping or retuning to
Jersey Mikes bc I love to hold grudges and I’m stubborn. I haven’t been to pet smart in a year and target for two years for a similar situation. I guess I’ll go to Portillo’s instead. They are ALWAYS VERY FRIENDLY THERE.
The staff were very quiet and seemed super annoyed with any customer interaction, but they made a damn good sandwich that was filling and fresh!
We visited Jersey Mike’s on New Year’s Day around 1:00 PM. The store was extremely busy, with a high volume of online and large orders — completely expected on a holiday. During the time we were there, the young woman slicing was polite, attentive, and consistently professional. She handled mass slicing for large orders, took customer orders with attention and care, and even stepped away to handle grill orders when needed. Throughout our visit, she maintained a calm, respectful, and professional attitude, despite clearly carrying a significant portion of the workload. From a customer perspective, it was impressive to watch her multitask under pressure while remaining composed. Our food came out excellent, which is a direct reflection of her skill and effort.
Unfortunately, the other employee created a very uncomfortable and unprofessional environment. She was openly yelling, cussing, and complaining about being hungover in front of customers. She repeatedly made negative comments about how customers should place large orders online or that orders should be refused altogether. At one point, she even told the slicer not to take any more orders. While her behavior wasn’t necessarily directed at the slicer, it created a stressful and uncomfortable environment for both the slicer and customers.
What was particularly concerning is that this employee claimed to be the shift lead. If that is true, her behavior is completely unacceptable and directly undermines what leadership should represent. A shift lead should model professionalism, respect, and support for their team — not create tension, discomfort, or disrespect in front of customers. The slicer handled the situation admirably, maintaining composure, professionalism, and patience despite the toxic environment created by the supposed shift lead. She clearly demonstrated the qualities of leadership that the other employee lacked.
I have managed my own franchises, so I fully understand staffing challenges, holiday rushes, and the pressures of running a busy store. That said, this level of unprofessionalism is completely unacceptable. Employees who are hungover or unable to behave professionally should call off rather than negatively affecting their coworkers and customers. The slicer demonstrated exactly the opposite: she handled both her workload and the unprofessional behavior around her with grace and efficiency.
It was also concerning that there appeared to be no other leadership present during the shift. The slicer, despite being a crew member, was effectively holding the shift together while remaining professional and focused. She deserves recognition for maintaining composure and ensuring the food and service were delivered well.
I hope management takes note of both employees: the slicer for her outstanding professionalism and composure under pressure, and the supposed shift lead for her unprofessional behavior, which should never occur in a customer-facing or leadership role. The food was excellent — this review is meant to highlight both the exemplary performance of the slicer and the serious behavior issues that need to be addressed.
i called to talk to the manager and she told me that’s what i ordered and didn’t believe me and told me i ordered it mikes way so it’s going to be wet. no. i didn’t order that. wouldn’t replace order. very sad
Later, when our company received more coupons, I considered using their catering service for an upcoming event. Before committing, I brought my family again to give it another try. Unfortunately, this second visit turned out to be one of the most disappointing dining experiences I’ve ever had. The manager was dismissive and unfriendly, and again acted as though he did not want to redeem the coupon. Even the kitchen staff looked uncomfortable and stressed, almost apologetic for the way things were being handled.
Why would the company distribute coupons if customers are going to be made to feel unwelcome when they try to use them? It leaves the impression of poor management and a negative environment, which is a shame because I truly feel for the staff working under those conditions.
Sadly, this experience convinced me not to return. I sincerely hope the restaurant addresses these issues, improves its management, and creates a better atmosphere for both staff and guests.
