My sister and I came to visit my mother in Des Moines and we decided we wanted Jersey Mikes for dinner.

Tonight has been my worst experience by far at any food place I have ever been to. We placed our order through the app as of 5:16pm. It said it would be ready by 5:30pm. I know it takes longer to make gluten free sandwiches because they have to clean the grill so I did not arrive until 5:45pm to pick up my food.

When I got there hardly any customers were in the store. 2 people were in line to order and 2 people were standing waiting for doordash. I ended up waiting a few moments before asking if my order was ready around 5:50pm. They checked and found it had not even been started yet and that it was quite a few tickets behind the others for the grill. I was told it would be about 10 minutes by the kid who was working the register.

The kid then went to check if he had told me correct by the guy on the grill. The guy went to check my ticket and started laughing saying, “yeah good luck with that. It’s got gluten free. Its gonna be awhile.”

He then proceeded to make 8 sandwiches and none of them were mine. I had doordash drivers come in after me who received there food before me. I watched the guy on the grill move tickets that were behind mine forward.

At 6:05pm I watched the guy on the grill finally start cleaning the grill. By 6:10pm he started making 2 gluten free sandwiches. And did not pay attention to the fact that #65 was not supposed to have jalepenos and yet seem to have a ton of them on the sandwich.

By 6:21pm all sandwiches were done. The manager (Jasmine) tried to hand a cookie off to me and another customer who had been waiting almost as long as me. But considering I cannot eat it nor does that make up for waiting nearly an hour from the time my food was supposed to be ready I did not want it.

The manager seemed to have a chip on her shoulder and kept throwing hateful looks towards my mother and me after we would not accept her offer. She then went back behind the counter pulled out her phone, messed with it for a bit then pulled some vouchers out. She offered us 2 of them for our 3 sandwiches. My mother thought it was more reasonable to have 3 vouchers since our order was for 3 sandwiches and the manager disagreed.

All sandwiches were put in the same bag. I specifically put special instructions on my order for the gluten free sandwiches to be put in a seperate bag. I have never had any trouble with this at any other store. The manager said, “We don’t do that.” I explained that I have asked at other stores and had no problem. I was then told by the manager “Well you don’t have to come here. You can go to another store. And you can leave.”

I feel like this was a personal attack against me due to my food allergies and I do not appreciate it. I was not asking for anything special just for the considerations that I know are in place by this company. Its normally why I love coming to Jersey Mikes

Visited Jersey Mikes subs on Merle Hay today. Had the Big Kahuna Cheese Steak on wheat, 13.95 for the Giant sub. Pretty good sub, tasty and huge. Store should be kept cleaner, staff was fast and friendly though, will return.

Nothing ticks me off more than when you advertise “skip the line” order online and watch people come in, wait in line and receive your food before you. If you are going to advertise faster service you need to abide by that. Took 30 minutes for us to receive our online order!

One of my fav places but not recently. Like many people that are bread lovers know the main part of the sandwich is that and best part. I went to 3 places to grab something quick day of New Yr everywhere packed and I am just starving from traveling. Wanted to rely on here but once waiting in line – getting in vehicle to finally eat, I realized my bread right away. Looked almost undercooked, too on the light side, and with it being mikes way with the vinegar and extras the juices just soaked it up completely just time to get in car. Went back in to point it out and I come here frequently and have never had that light of bread, asked if it was ok to even eat and cooked – hoping for a new after paying $27 for my boyfriend and I to get food. I got its just more on the light side and fine to eat. I pointed every other loaf in their loaf section being used and even my boyfriends were dark, toasted.. end of story I ended unhappy with a soggy tortilla sandwich. Im really not too picky or one to make reviews but felt sometimes something simple to keep a customer is not hard. Especially due to the price to eat here.

Very pleasant experience! The meat is sliced right as you order it and the sandwich is put together with fresh ingredients! Wish there were more veggies available for those who chose not to eat meat. However the sandwich I got with the help of the staff was delicious! There are chips available as well as fountain drinks and bottled refreshments!

absolutely love the sandwiches- meat freshly cut in front of you! meat for a hot sub is cooked on a flat stove top, not microwaved.vegetables are always fresh and good. I was so glad when one came to Iowa, coming from Florida. they aren’t the cheapest things in the industry but one of the best,(!best in cold subs) they are filling though meat is loaded up on it and veggies are just the right amount? and the staff is always nice and service is fast.

Delicious gluten free option!! I was getting my usual awesome sandwich and looking for gluten free options, but their gluten free bread is awful IMO. But this time an employee suggested the bowl. Never knew about it. Was very delicious!! Thanks to Jersey Mike’s on Merle Hay!

I came to this location for lunch today moral was horrible could tell employees were not happy. Food was good so I decided to return for dinner. Horrible walked in to what was stated to be a manager yelling at an employee across the store. I understand their times that coaching may be needed but they should be done behind counter, and privately and if can not do it privately than should be a calming tone not yelling.

I ordered a hot sub in tub for first time there was no direction on what I could or couldn’t do with tub. I asked her if I can do tub and all they said was yes and continue to yell at employee that she had hot food to prepare and her door dash was here. No one asked me what wanted in my tub. I had to ask can I get lettuce etc in it. Also the meat/cheese of sub were not cut up like cold subs so now it’ll be harder to eat. If I had known I would have asked to be cut into smaller pieces or picked a different sandwich as I am trying to eat low carb.

Today was the annual day of giving where all money was donated to charity. I called in my order so I wouldn’t have to wait in line long to get my family dinner. That kind of backfired. As I stood there watching the never-ending line keep going and going, my call in order bag stayed empty. Many food delivery drivers kept coming and going with others’ calls in orders. A couple of employees asked what order I was waiting on, and I let them know. It was very busy, and everyone behind the counter was busting their butt making sandwiches with what looked like no mistakes. Back to me, the line finally ended, and outgoing orders were getting filled, but I still had nothing. They all finally had a break in customers, so clean up started and bathroom breaks got started. About 3 or 4 employees acknowledged I was there and still waiting, so they quickly filled my order, offered me chips and a brownie for my troubles. I told them their lucky we love the sandwiches! Anyway, I took the food home and the food was like always, great! I’ve never had the brownies or cookies, so that was a nice treat. Hopefully, others will understand my take on this evening. Yes I had to wait but it was very busy because of the promotion. Yes, I was past over many times, so others could get their food, but I wasn’t in a hurry because of the promotion. I think out of all of the things going on, misplacing my ticket was probably the worst thing that went on during all this. So here’s a big KUDOS to all the staff at this location!!! I will be back many times, I’m sure!
