Of course, I’m compelled to point out that JM’s products aren’t truly representative of the real New Jersey / Philadelphia ‘hoagie’ experience. But — for the price — JM’s food is an acceptable substitute. Everything I’ve tried is better than other (usually regional) ‘Genuine Philly’ shops and, importantly, it’s very consistent between locations.
As to JM’s concept, just two annoyances worth mentioning: (a) Compared to classic ‘Italian sub rolls’ in NJ /PA, JM’s bread is a letdown; (b) I think JM’s ordering process and std. back-counter area suffer from an odd configuration. Maybe they’re designed for maximum efficiency in training, but they sure seem oddly clumsy in workflow.
I came in with two other coworkers today. One ordered a bowl, the other a hot sub, and for myself, a steak and cheese.
Coworker 1: She ordered a bowl for herself. She said that the bowl could’ve had more in it, especially if she paid the same price for a hot sub with bread.
Coworker 2: She said that when she got her food, the top of the bread was soggy, but the ends were hard. She said she was expecting a better experience for the price. She says the restaurant was too cold, and the person (woman) that checked us out wasn’t customer friendly and didn’t offer any additional items such as a drink, chips, or sweets.
As for myself, I will not visit this location again. As coworker 2 said, the cashier wasn’t friendly and barely looked at me. We all arrived at the same time, but she serviced my coworkers first. I had to wait to get my order because she went to another customer, skipping over me. It was cold in there so we didn’t eat inside. The food was good but not worth the price.
Just to be clear, this is not to bash or belittle the workers there, but to provide honest feedback so that there is a possibility for growth to improve on customer services.
Parking is abundant since it is in the strip mall. There is no drive through.
* Must ask for oils because they DO NOT offer it – I guess you just have to know they have it and know what types of oils the carry. *
I got a #13 Italian sub regular for about $10, and my husband got a #17 Mike’s Philly Cheese Steak sub regular about $10 and a fountain drink. It came out to about $25
The sub is a large portion and my Italian tasted fresh, not at all like subway. It would have been nice to have some oils on the sub but didn’t know until I drove off and my husband said he read a sign saying they had famous oils. It would have been nice since they advertise they have famous oils to at least offer it!
Husband’s Philly was super scrumptious! I have not had one that good in a long time!
I might come back just to try another sub with their famous oils.
The person who made my sandwich both times was the same for each visit.
I was charged for it but from what I could see I did not get double meat. On my second visit which is the most recent I made a point of mentioning that I was charged for double meat but did not get it. The worker said ok and grabbed a scale and went by some weight measurement. I watched him only but like maybe three or four pieces extra of both types of meat, which looked to equal what has been considered “normal” if I hadn’t ordered double meat.
