Reviews
I recommended this place to my family for dinner and we were disappointed. We ordered a variety from the menu and overall it was lacking flavor. We also received servings of rice & peas disproportionate to the amount of meat given. We spoke to the owner and he took accountability. He said he had new staff, and that he was willing to remake the order. We allowed him to remake the order and although we appreciated his service, the experience was the same. Little meat, and a lot of carbs. For the price, I likely will not support this food truck again. I will say that Chef Brownman was not there on either of the following occasions.
I still recommend trying the juice & maybe a beef patty. Unfortunately, I cannot vouch for consistency.
Initial Review
General Mood: I was happy to come across this food truck. It’s hard to come across food cooked with this much flavor. People don’t cook with love anymore.
The Crew & Customer Service: It’s authentic Jamaican cooked by Jamaicans. I think it’s 3 men. Chef Brownman took care of me today. He had a pleasant attitude and was very accommodating.
The Food: I got curry chicken, oxtail, rice & peas, and plantains. The portion size was nice. Definitely going to have this for lunch and dinner. The curry chicken is tender and flavorful. The oxtail just kind of melts in your mouth. Yum! Cabbage was fresh. The rice & peas were good, but a little al dente in some places. The plantains were perfectly sliced, not too thick.
Drink: I also tried the Pineapple Ginger juice. The juice is tasty, light, & refreshing. It’s not too sweet or watered down. It’s served without ice. Neither flavor is overpowering. I would give it a 10. Tastes pretty healthy & delicious.
Price: The meal was $24 & the juice was $6. I feel $30 is on par with the other restaurants that serve the same food items.
Overall:
I would recommend trying this place. I plan to come again!
However…the portion was way too small, the rice n peas were not done (both crunchy), the gravy was bland, the coco bread was store-bought and no cabbage or wings.
I paid $20 for this (see pic). Really?!
Hopefully this was just an off day because I’ve heard good things. But I was not pleased. Sad because the guy who served me was really sweet.
Unless someone can convince me otherwise, I won’t go back.
