It was 1986 when I left my hometown of Christiana in Jamaica and moved to Tampa to attend USF. As a young man I was marveled and excited by the great opportunities this country offered and after Graduating from USF I wanted to do something Special for Tampa. That is when my dream began. The dream of introducing Jamaica and colorful melting pot of its cuisine culture to Tampa.

Sooo much on the buffet including rice & beans, jerk chicken, brown stew, bbq pork, cabbage, and plantain. The brown stew was so flavorful and moist with extra oxtail gravy, which they had in the bar.
Go! Try everything!
Our waitress was super nice and friendly. It was little warm in there to sit comfortably and eat would be my only complaint.
I will be returning!
On a Saturday evening, it was pretty busy and seemed like they had two events going on. Honestly, there’s just too much happening when you first walk in. If I remember correctly, there was a hostess stand at the entrance with a worker there, but we stood there for a while without being acknowledged. Eventually, someone told us takeout was to the right and the restaurant to the left. The entrance area felt chaotic.
We were finally seated, and after a bit of a wait, our waitress made her way over. She asked if we’d been there before — we mentioned it had been over 10 years, back when they were in the small hut across the street. She asked if we were doing the buffet; we said no, and she walked away. About five minutes later, she brought menus. I was hoping she’d explain the different dining options since we genuinely didn’t know what was available.
Eventually, we placed our order, and once the food arrived, it did not disappoint! Everything was seasoned and cooked to perfection. We had the jerk chicken rasta pasta with Alfredo sauce (a bit salty for me, but still really good), the oxtails with rice & beans and plantains — perfectly cooked and flavorful — and lastly, the ‘boat’ (not pictured). The fries could’ve used another minute to get that nice crisp.
The place was very busy, so we didn’t see our waitress much after that. Overall, we probably wouldn’t dine in again, but we’ll definitely be back for takeout in the future.
Being a 20 year Service Industry person, I can be judgy about places. Here, the bathroom was well lit and immaculate. A great sign that the kitchen probably is as well. Our server made sure we needed nothing, gave great information about the music and menu, and was genuinely kind. The entire staff was smiling. I saw the hostess taking the time to walk a guest through the buffet, dish by dish. The rum punch is flavorful and potent.
If I have one critique, it’s that some very popular buffet items were slow to be refilled, like the phenomenal collard greens and curry chicken. But the buffet was never empty and all food was hot and fresh.
In all, this place is a culinary and service GEM! Please help support their hard work!
The food was hot, fresh, and full of flavor. There were plenty of options to choose from — white rice, rice and peas, steamed cabbage, collard greens, and a variety of proteins including jerk chicken, BBQ chicken, curry chicken, pork, fried fish, and fried chicken. Everything was well-seasoned and satisfying.
They also offered a side salad with lettuce, cucumbers, and tomatoes (not pictured), and for dessert, there was a refreshing mix of grapes, pineapples, watermelon, and orange slices.
But the real star of the show for me was the oxtail gravy — rich, savory, and with tender pieces of that delectable meat. I could’ve eaten a plate of just that!
Overall, the service was excellent, the food was tasty and hot, and the atmosphere was welcoming. I’ll definitely be coming back. Highly recommend if you’re craving authentic Caribbean comfort food. Not to mention, the price was right. $88.13 not including tip fed 4 adults and a child.
