This review is for a takeout order on a Saturday night around 7pm. We placed our order through our app. Upon arrival, the restaurant was quite packed and bustling. Inside was lower lighting and well designed decor. We were helped almost immediately and our food was ready to go right on time. The items were thoughtfully packaged in appropriate containers in a paper bag. All of the food was well prepared and fresh. Hands down some of the best chips and salsa around and huge portions! However, we did not enjoy the actually tortillas at all. The charro beans were well prepared but did not have enough salt or flavor, in my opinion. Other than that, the meat for the tacos and the enchiladas were cooked and flavored well. Unfortunately, the rice was undercooked for the first enchiladas meal. It was not a bad meal and we will definitely eat here again but might try some of the other menu items to see if it is a better palate-match. Very friendly staff! Shared parking lot as this is located in a plaza with a grocery store and other businesses.

Jefe in Lake Oswego advertises itself as a delicious twist on Mexican food and drink. Unfortunately, that description only works if the twist is food with virtually no flavor and margaritas that are overly bitter.
I truly love Mexican food and I am very open to modern or creative takes on it, but there still needs to be flavor. The food here was extremely bland like chewing water, to the point that we had to ask the wait staff for salsa and other condiments just to add some taste. Even then, it did not help much. On top of that, the portions were very small and still completely tasteless.
My friend had couple of different drink and did not care for them. They were forgettable at best. For appetizers, couple of drinks, and two very small and flavorless entrées, plus a 20 percent tip, the total came to $110. For what we received, that price felt completely unjustified.
The only reason this place may stay busy is that there is no other restaurant in the strip mall open after 4 pm, so there is essentially no competition. Unfortunately, convenience alone is not enough to make this worth a return visit.
Definitely not worth the price and we will not be coming back.

Excellent, friendly service!
They have some very cozy semi private booths which makes it easy to talk.
Very good margarita.
$4.00 for chips and salsa… usually comes with your meal elsewhere but was tasty. Soup was very flavorful.

We took our friend there for her birthday dinner and had such a great time. The food was really delicious and there were so many options to choose from. I also loved that they had choices that fit different dietary needs, which made it easy for everyone in our group to find something they liked. The atmosphere was warm and really nice, perfect for celebrating. We will definitely be going back again and again. Highly recommend!

Had high hopes based on the reviews, the menu and the ambiance. The best item we ordered was the chips and salsa. Their corn tortilla is horrible. I took one bite and ended up just eating the inside of my tacos. It was thick and tough. Most of the dishes weren’t tasty. Service was good in the beginning and then it wasn’t. Waited awhile and asked twice for a refill of water. We wouldn’t go back.

I love their unique brunch items! I am always torn whether to get the razor clams, which are delicious or the chilaquiles with the barbacoa beef! Both options are two of my favorites! The sweet cream pancakes are great too and I love a few bites with my savory breakfast! The cocktails and coffee are good also! Sitting out on the patio is wonderful and I love that my pup is welcome. The service is consistently perfect!

There’s a lot to like about this place. It’s unlike any Mexican restaurant I’ve been to. Love the decor and vibe inside. The tacos were quite good, but not great. The presentation was artful, and the drinks were tasty and creative. Servers were friendly, but nothing above average.
My only real complaint is the guacamole appetizer. We got less than 1.5 cups of average tasting guacamole, a half cup of salsa, and some chips for $14. I couldn’t believe the price: should’ve been at least twice as much guacamole for that price. I got about the same amount of chips and salsa as a side order for only four dollars. That was much more reasonable.
So I guess it was good enough for me to come back sometime, but I’m not ordering the guacamole.

A great brunch alternative to some other nearby restaurants. The wait time was minimal but not indicative of the food quality or service.
We thoroughly enjoyed everything from the appetizers to the entrees.
My only complaint: no Dr. Pepper ♂️
