We came in for lunch 35 mins before closing, everyone was so nice and we had a great meal! Great menu setup where you choose 1 main and up to 3 sides, or they have sandwiches and salads. Fresh. I was surprised Jean’s didn’t come up in Google when we searched for restaurants earlier this week. Glad we found it!

First Visit — Hoping It Was Just an Off Day
I recently moved to Meridian and decided to give Jean’s a try. The place itself is really charming, and I was excited to enjoy a good Southern meal. I ordered the baked chicken (white meat), side salad, and braised cabbage—it also came with cornbread.
Everything came out within two minutes of ordering, which raised some concern right away. The salad was extremely basic—barely anything to it. The chicken looked dry, and unfortunately, it tasted just as it looked. It was so tough and chewy that I couldn’t eat it. The cabbage had decent texture but was lacking in flavor. The cornbread completely crumbled when I picked it up—super dry.
The only thing I managed to eat was the cabbage and the salad. I’m really hoping it was just an off day for them, because the atmosphere and location had great potential. They were busy, so I’ll withhold comments on the service for now. I may give it another shot down the road and hope for a better experience.

The food was awesome! The atmosphere was just as good as the food. Our waitress Sam was superb. Highly recommend this place for all.

I had the turkey and stuffing with gravy, collard greens and fried green tomatoes with a yeast roll for lunch and mashed potatoes and gravy. I had a piece of chocolate meringue pie for dessert. The food was good and my waitress Vera was very friendly and checked on me often. Nice place to eat!

The white brownie was great for dessert too! I left that place walking sideways, the food was so good! ‘Food coma’ doesn’t even begin to describe I how felt after that meal! Great Service, great food, great place!

I had heard a lot about Jean’s Restaurant from various people over the years… all saying great and not so good things about this place, so as a second timer.. Child that sweet potato souffle is definitely so delicious and was so tasty that I know my Mama felt that slap all the way in Illinois.. It was so light and airy that you almost felt like eating it was on cloud nine up in the sky it was just that good..My chicken was just a bit dry, but it might have been a off day..I don’t hold that against Jean’s Restaurant ’cause we all have those off days..I still feel the food is good and you don’t have to take my word for it… If you find yourself in Meridian and you want some good old Southern comfort food, then this is most definitely a place that needs to get seen and tasted by you!

Lots of fun. the coolest place in Meridian to eat. Lunch only, Monday through Friday. Really good food. Old-fashioned chef prepared cooked meals. Vegetable plate, Hamburger-steak, Turkey and dressing, Hamburgers, every day. plus a special each day. Today was meatloaf. I come here every chance I get.
Came back for beef tips over rice. Really good. Will be back on Wednesdays this summer.
