We’ve visited Jean-Pascal Pâtisserie twice during our five days in Hobart, and we simply can’t get enough of their sausage rolls and scallop pie. It’s the pastry that truly sets them apart—a truly buttery, flaky crust that is quite honestly a cut above the rest. The sausage roll filling is juicy, well-seasoned, and mildly spiced, while the scallop pie is smooth and delicate, not gritty like others we’ve tasted. From the moment you step into the quirky, unpretentious takeaway shop, with its sparse décor of retro French art, knick-knacks, and cake decorations, the pastry display and fridge immediately stand out. The coffee is surprisingly good as well. We’re leaving Hobart tomorrow, but rest assured, we’ll be making one final stop for sausage rolls and a scallop pie before we go.

My first visit after 15 years of living in Hobart. Heard it was good and it lived up to expectations. Great coffee and a delicious opera slice (vanilla slice?)

The cakes and patiserie for take away from here are indeed of a high quality and standard.
The food in the Cafe how ever leaves a little less to be desired. The Dining room is VERY Cramped and visibly not very clean.
The table service is almost non existant as everything needs to be prepaid at the cluttered register in the galley entrance.
Prices are moderate but the over all experience
Leaves me wanting to get out of there.
If the French are supposed to be the finest purveyors of all things Gastronomic then based on this place I would prefer cuisine from others.Difficult to find Parking, reservations accepted , not suitable for gatherings of more than 4 persons. Unlicenced.
The Man has a good heart and is working hard to satisfy people. Give him a chance as what he supplies to us the public remains of a higher standard than other traders. 10 out of ten for effort and 7 of ten for the cafe dinners.
Patisserie rates higher at 8 to 9 out of ten.
Dont shy away, give it a go as these issues once addressed can be resolved. Overall , Positive.

Jean-Pascal Patisserie is a local cafe with a highly-rated reputation, but my experience left much to be desired. The small cafe has limited seating, both indoors and outdoors, and also boasts a shop at the end of the road. Unfortunately, the ambiance was marred by unwelcoming staff and poor presentation.

While the cafe is praised for its high rating, the food proved to be average at best. The ricotta and cheddar tart lacked flavor, and the croissant with grilled bacon failed to impress. The coffee, touted as a highlight, was surprisingly average.

The limited seating area may contribute to the cozy atmosphere. Despite its positive reviews, my visit left me puzzled as to why it holds a 4-star rating. Perhaps others have different tastes, but for those seeking a warm welcome, flavorful dishes, and exceptional coffee, Jean-Pascal Patisserie may not live up to the hype.

This is the worst french cafe in Hobart. Coming from a french background this is the most disgusting food I have ever seen in my life. The food took long to come out. The waitress did not look happy with customers. When the food came out it looked like dog food. All burnt and yucky. I asked for the chef to come out to look at what he served. They gave me a refund. I asked to talk to the owner and the staff said he is busy. They made me go around the back to chat to him. He is french and said he didn’t know what the chef cooked. If I was you I wouldn’t step foot in that place. And they charge $30 for this disgusting food. And they had an old lady in there who was so loud, clearly a local with very bad behaviour.

Had a brunch today, the lamb pie was delicious served with surprisingly lovely little salad with salmon. Also included was delicious tomato relish. Coffee was excellent, coming back again.

I visited based on a friend’s recommendation, I’m in Hobart for a one day business trip. I’m so glad that I managed to squeeze this place in, what an awesome place. I had a simple breakfast, a savoury croissant and coffee. But the quality, flavour and texture of the food is simply perfect. I wish I had the time or the capacity for dessert, I’ve bought cookies for my trip back to Sydney and would be sharing them with family and friends.

Highly recommended. Ordered a custom cake for our wedding after talking to several vendors. Jean-Pascal’s were very accommodating, and made the whole process from samples to delivery effortless despite being more affordable. Very friendly staff and a delicious cake that didn’t survive the evening.

Excellent mocha and hot chocolate. Enjoyed the fresh and delicious food here at the corner of Baker and Carlton. Those with dogs are served sitting outside. Nice small place.
