Food was decent. We got the steak on French bread and the Philly cheese steak. The steak on French bread wasn’t great. It lacked a lot of flavor and was overcooked. The Philly cheese steak on the other hand was great. It was well seasoned and delicious. The vibe of this diner was wonderful. The 50’s vibe was there with all the neon light and aesthetics. Lovely place with lots of options to chose from. Our waitress was awesome. She had a great sense of humor and made our visit even better. I would recommend this place if you’d like you get some good diner food.

As walking in there is a pleasant garbage or rotten food smell.

The music box was very difficult to operate.

The desert was ok. I could have done without it.

The waitress was very polite and attentive. She checked in on us 3 times.

The people behind me was banging on my chair.

The mashed potatoes were like something from a foreign planet. They had a bounce to it like it was spring loaded.

The roast beef was cooked very well done like shoe leather. Shoe leather surprise indigestion flip flop sandwich

The French fries were beer battered and I don’t like that but I ate all of them.

Good pickles!

Scary bathrooms.

A perfect dingy diner.

If you’re looking for a classic, no-frills diner experience in Rochester, Jay’s Diner is worth checking out. The place has plenty of parking, which is a huge plus in a busy area, making it easy to swing by without any hassle.

From the outside, it might look a bit run-down and dated, but don’t let that fool you—step inside, and you’ll be greeted by friendly hosts who provide top-notch service. Everything moves quickly, so whether you’re in for a quick bite or a full meal, you won’t be waiting around forever.

The food is where Jay’s really shines. Their omelets are fluffy and packed with flavor, and the pastas are hearty and satisfying—definitely don’t disappoint. It’s got that nostalgic vibe, like stepping back into a simpler time, perfect for comfort food that hits the spot.

It’s not fancy, but the delicious eats and efficient service make it a go-to spot for locals and visitors alike. Highly recommend for anyone craving diner classics!

First time at the diner, it will not be our last! The food was amazing, fresh and a really good value. If I could give the service more than five stars, I would. Jay’s was extremely clean, including the bathroom.

The reason for the two star review is because the food is way overpriced for the quality. I could’ve went somewhere else and got a much better quality for the same price or a little less. I got the chicken Parmesan and it tasted like TV dinner chicken Parmesan. Very disappointed in the quality of the food for the price.

I got waffles and bananas cooked in it, I was surprised they didn’t have many fruit options. The waffles were nice and soft and not too sweet which is perfect. The soda kinda had a metal taste to it but the food was good otherwise. The service was excellent I don’t know the name of my waiter since she didn’t have a name tag but she was kind and gave great recommendations. My brother got chicken tenders and they didn’t taste too great, the fries were good. Our food also came in like 10 minutes the wait was so short.this was a great experience over all totally recommend.

We love to come for lunch/dinner, the food is always good and reasonably priced. We came for breakfast today. The food was expensive, the options for breakfast were quite limited compared to other diners. We were disappointed that the “butter” served with the pancakes was actually a 51% vegetable oil “buttery spread” that left a noticeable aftertaste. The pancakes were not great themselves. The service was wonderful as always, food came out quick, and our waters and coffee were never empty. We will stick to lunch and dinner.

I won’t lie, I am a little hesitant when it comes to diners. They make their foods a little different. However, when I am out of town, I ALWAYS like to try news places; places I won’t find in the Syracuse area.
When I walked in, you see Jay’s had that oldies diner atmosphere. Which is GREAT! You never see that anymore. I was also welcomed with a huge smile from Amanda V., who later become my server too.
Before I looked at the menu, I told Amanda V. I wasn’t from the area, and asked her what’s something she would recommend. She pointed out 2 things; 1st was something that Rochester was actually known for (the Garbage Plate), and the 2nd was their top seller in the diner itself. Forget the name of the plate, but I remember that the price was mid-priced. I noticed in the past, most places like to point out the most expensive plate offered, and it makes me feel like they are all about the paycheck, and not the actual service itself. However, I ended up not going with either. Ended up going with the Cajun Pasta Prima Vera, and Home Fries. For anyone who can’t handle their spice, the Cajun Pasta isn’t that spicy, so you have nothing to worry about. The entire meal was delicious too. Had a little spice, so it wasn’t the basic Chicken Alfredo.
Now for the service itself. Amanda V. was extremely nice and friendly to me. However, as I sat, waiting for my meal to arrive, I noticed she also was the same to everyone else. Had a little laugh, and even had other customer laughing. Shows you she enjoys her job, and she is all about service. When it came to my ending, she asked me about any dessert. Told her meal was a lot bigger than I expected, and I was far too full to get anything else in. Once again, she had that laugh, and stated the Pasta meals usually do have a good amount of pasta. Guess that shows you’re definitely not leaving hungry; even though the desserts did look delicious. If I didn’t have a 2 hour drive home, I would have gotten something to go

It’s a classic diner with a fab menu. Exactly what would expect ☺️
Corned beef hash [pictured] was delish and the Peanut Butter pie was light and fluffy.
We only visited for breakfast so can’t speak on the lunch menu but it’s an affordable diner, would def recommend!
