The music box was very difficult to operate.
The desert was ok. I could have done without it.
The waitress was very polite and attentive. She checked in on us 3 times.
The people behind me was banging on my chair.
The mashed potatoes were like something from a foreign planet. They had a bounce to it like it was spring loaded.
The roast beef was cooked very well done like shoe leather. Shoe leather surprise indigestion flip flop sandwich
The French fries were beer battered and I don’t like that but I ate all of them.
Good pickles!
Scary bathrooms.
A perfect dingy diner.
From the outside, it might look a bit run-down and dated, but don’t let that fool you—step inside, and you’ll be greeted by friendly hosts who provide top-notch service. Everything moves quickly, so whether you’re in for a quick bite or a full meal, you won’t be waiting around forever.
The food is where Jay’s really shines. Their omelets are fluffy and packed with flavor, and the pastas are hearty and satisfying—definitely don’t disappoint. It’s got that nostalgic vibe, like stepping back into a simpler time, perfect for comfort food that hits the spot.
It’s not fancy, but the delicious eats and efficient service make it a go-to spot for locals and visitors alike. Highly recommend for anyone craving diner classics!
i really enjoyed the falafel burger special & hope they have that back again sometime!! they also had a spanokopita special i’d love to try if i see that one available again.
other times i’ve gotten breakfast, which is great as well!
they also really nail the aesthetics!!! a neat vibe in terms of atmosphere for sure
When I walked in, you see Jay’s had that oldies diner atmosphere. Which is GREAT! You never see that anymore. I was also welcomed with a huge smile from Amanda V., who later become my server too.
Before I looked at the menu, I told Amanda V. I wasn’t from the area, and asked her what’s something she would recommend. She pointed out 2 things; 1st was something that Rochester was actually known for (the Garbage Plate), and the 2nd was their top seller in the diner itself. Forget the name of the plate, but I remember that the price was mid-priced. I noticed in the past, most places like to point out the most expensive plate offered, and it makes me feel like they are all about the paycheck, and not the actual service itself. However, I ended up not going with either. Ended up going with the Cajun Pasta Prima Vera, and Home Fries. For anyone who can’t handle their spice, the Cajun Pasta isn’t that spicy, so you have nothing to worry about. The entire meal was delicious too. Had a little spice, so it wasn’t the basic Chicken Alfredo.
Now for the service itself. Amanda V. was extremely nice and friendly to me. However, as I sat, waiting for my meal to arrive, I noticed she also was the same to everyone else. Had a little laugh, and even had other customer laughing. Shows you she enjoys her job, and she is all about service. When it came to my ending, she asked me about any dessert. Told her meal was a lot bigger than I expected, and I was far too full to get anything else in. Once again, she had that laugh, and stated the Pasta meals usually do have a good amount of pasta. Guess that shows you’re definitely not leaving hungry; even though the desserts did look delicious. If I didn’t have a 2 hour drive home, I would have gotten something to go

Corned beef hash [pictured] was delish and the Peanut Butter pie was light and fluffy.
We only visited for breakfast so can’t speak on the lunch menu but it’s an affordable diner, would def recommend!
