The service was frendly and helpful. The Cafe atmosphere was as advertised. A true Cafe home feel. The food was good. The popers were tasty with a light breading. The salmon was good. Nice char and glaze(very tasty) just a tad over cooked for me but still good. The okra was just like the popers FANTASTIC. The salads were fresh and tasty. The catfish was big and yummy. Home made tarter sause hit the spot. Great place.

You really must visit this place when you’re starving because the portions are no joke. Husband and I came here after some research for an eatery between stops and a suggestion from a local business.
Service was wonderful, I think we had Bailey (or it might have been Hailey, I lost the receipt and can’t recall to be fair. But she has a red dye allergy. ) but she was extraordinary and kind.
There is a rotating specials menu on the digitized screen behind the register but don’t let the photos shown fool you, the portions are gigantic. I ended up ordering an appetizer and a dessert skipping the entree, but the appetizer could have easily fed 2-3 people. I honestly did not come prepared because when the peach cobbler ala mode arrived it was like the hominids first seeing the monolith in 2001: A Space Odyssey. The crust was even and flakey, the filling was surprisingly zingy with strong ginger notes to compliment the al dente peaches within. This however was just the beginning with a colossal softball shaped scoop of Blue Bell vanilla perched upon this 8 oz monstrosity of delicious goodness. Even with eating only a portion of my appetizer I was only able to eat half of this and it honestly didn’t even look like I made a dent in it ( photos below show the dessert after consuming half of the bowl and the other remainder still taunting me.)
My husband got the small chicken fried steak which was easily a normal regular sized one with two sides. His sides were corn and french fries and while we couldn’t quite put our finger on it, we think there might be a bit of oregeno or similiar seasoning with the corn which was very satisfying and different from our usual flavors. Fries I almost want to say are double fried and chefs kiss.
Would definitely visit again, but will try to bring a much bigger appetite.

This was my first visit. We’ve always heard the food was excellent so we stopped by for a late lunch and it was prefect. Not too busy after lunch, and plenty of seating. Great service, tasty dishes, and clean restrooms. We will surely be back.

Stopped in after bike riding at Brazos Bend State Park. I had the Jalapeno Jay with Jalapeno bread. Outstanding and juicy burger. Fries were great dipped in the country gravy.

I had a great meal at Jay Cafe today. I ordered one of the daily specials which was turkey and dressing with two sides. Everything was delicious and the portions were generous. Also had the fried pickles as an appetizer which were amazing, I could just eat those alone and be happy. Our server was Shay and she knocked it out of the park, she was very friendly and attentive! Jay Cafe is a far drive from where I live but I’ll definitely be back, it’s worth it. I highly recommend to anyone in search of great food and service

By far the BEST chicken fried steak in a long time. The large was perfect size for the wife and I to share! Definitely worth stopping with wonderful deserts to finish it up!

I was on a business trip and I came here one time and I loved it so much so I came again. I personally loved the double burger with sourdough bread. It was very delicious and juicy. I was served by Isabel who did a fantastic job. I’d highly recommend this cafe.

I got the small chicken fried steak. It was enormous and tasty. The fried okra and corn were also very good. Sit in a booth if you don’t want the air conditioner blowing on you.

hands down one of the best dining experiences we’ve had in a long time. alex and julie went above and beyond to make us feel taken care of. dining out with an 18-month-old isn’t always easy, but they were so kind, patient, and genuinely sweet with my baby. the food was amazing, came out fast, and everything was perfect from start to finish. we never had to ask for a thing. this is the kind of service that keeps you coming back.

Jay cafe used to be the best place in Needville to grab dinner, now the quality of food is terrible. My chicken fried chicken was full of gristle and gross. Such a disappointment.
