Classic local hotdog joint. Great fries and homemade chips. Super friendly staff and very clean.
There’s always something good waiting when you come and see.

We stopped by Jay Bee’s in Statesville — one of those classic, older establishments that feels like it’s been serving the community for years.
You order at the counter, grab a seat, and they bring the food to you. The place was very clean, including the restrooms (always important), and the staff were genuinely sweet. That goes a long way with us.
They’re known for their hotdogs, so I went with the footlong and Stac got a regular hotdog with fries.
Now — full transparency — hotdog chili is very much a personal preference thing. I like mine on the drier side. Some folks love it wet, some like beans (not me… if there are beans involved, I’m out ). Their chili didn’t have beans, which is a plus for me, but it leaned more toward the wetter side than I personally prefer. It wasn’t soupy — just not as dry as I like it.
That said, the hotdogs were good. Just not my personal favorite style. And that’s the beauty of reviews — they’re opinions.
Where this place really shined for me?
The sides.
The fries were very, very good. The ranch was excellent. But the homemade chips? Perfection. A great mix of crispy and softer chips (I’m a fan of the softer ones), and they nailed that balance. I ordered pimento cheese on the side for dipping — not homemade, but really good. Honestly, I’d go back just for chips and pimento cheese all day long.
They also serve hamburgers, chicken sandwiches, milkshakes — classic menu items. They had Pepsi products (normally a “really?” moment for me ), but the machine was calibrated well and the Pepsi Zero wasn’t half bad.
Bonus for us — they were playing Christian music in the background, which Stac and I always appreciate.
So overall?
Good food. Great sides. Very kind people. Clean restaurant. The hotdogs weren’t exactly my style, but I can see why others would enjoy them.
There’s always something good waiting when you come and see.

I went through drive through on my way home and ordered a chicken sandwich meal hoping it would be good but i was definitely disappointed the chicken had no flavor and the cashier got smart with me after i asked for some ranch ..she said 25cents i said ok and went to hand her my card and she said you don’t have any cash and im like no i don’t carry cash and she proceeds to tell me im just going to give it to you ..it will cost more to run the card and had an attitude!! If you don’t like your job then get another one!! needless to say i won’t be going back!!

I enjoyed my hot dog, the fries and milk shake were the star of the show. I’ve since went back and just ordered fries and a shake as a meal the comb is top tier.

The footlong hotdog was over the moon good. Get it all the way! And the fries that comes with the #1 combo to die for, seriously. BUT….do not bother with the cheeseburger. My husband got a footlong and a cheeseburger and the beef patty was horrible. It was one of those frozen patties that doesn’t even taste like beef. It should have been a real meat smash burger because they used the same mustard, chili, slaw and onions as on the hotdog. That would have been fantastic with a real meat hamburger patty.
They had this dessert called Yum-Yum which we would have loved to try, but they were out of them.

The service was good and friendly but I’ve had better hot dogs from a gas station. I got the foot long combo all the way and it was extremely thin, tasteless and barely warm. Just a regular boiled hotdog with no snap, char or flavor whatsoever. I was really disappointed after the hype of it being world famous.

Ordered 2 hot dogs with onions & slaw, told the cook I wanted them grilled black, asked if they were boiled, he said no, we grill our dogs! We’ll mine were not, ate part of one, trashed the 2nd one. As it was so soggy the BOILED dog fell out of the wet bun. Will NEVER be back there, used to be good 10 yrs. Ago. Spend money to throw the food in the garbage, that’s what the food was:GARBAGE! Should of listened to friends

Fantastic food! This old dairy bar serves up the best hotdogs I’ve had outside of WV. They were delicious with great meaty chili and steamed to perfection. The cheese whiz style cheese compliments both the dogs and fries. My husband is very picky about his kraut dogs and said it was probably the best he’s ever had. Prices are reasonable and the lady taking our order was so nice and patient. Wish they were open on the weekends; it’s the only downfall.

I enjoyed the food and service. While I went through the drive through, The lady that was assisting me with my order told me I would be back. This was my first time stopping by. After I got my order, I went and parked in the parking lot to eat my food because it was smelling soooo good. I took pictures and showed my sisters. One placed her order. I went back through the drive through and when the lady saw me again, she began to laugh. I don’t think when she said I will be back it would be that quick(Looool… I truly enjoyed my meal and my sister did too. I will be back.

I’ve seen the billboard on I40 for a while and I like hotdogs and local joints so I finally stopped at the drive thru. I ordered a foot long with fries and cherry Pepsi as well as a Johnsonville bratwurst with spicy mustard and kraut. Dessert was something called cherry yum yum! The footling was not bad for brown weenie and the slaw was chunky but worked. Not a big fan of the chili as it tasted like canned Hormel or something akin to that. The brat was split and they are always good from Johnsonville with the mustard and kraut accentuating the flavour. The fries were straight cut and coated and were hot and fresh. The wild cherry Pepsi was good as it always is but the best item was the dessert! Cherry yum yum tasted like cherry cheesecake but looked like banana pudding using cherry pie filling instead…it was worth the visit and I’ll be back for morw fo sho…
