Sushi/Ramen restaurant in Redondo Beach. Great Happy Hour and best sake selections in South bay. Sake sommelier and chef Taka Sada’s journey began in Osaka, Japan. As a carefree youth Taka always remembers enjoying bargain sake with friends, but his true passion for sake flew into high gear after trying premium sake. It’s Taka’s father who taught him that sake exists for food while educating him on the fine points of pairing. Soon after Taka began his culinary career and in 2002, with his life partner Chika, opened Japonica! Their journey in originating authentic Japanese Izakaya-Sushi advances daily and with the addition of discovering smoked methods to enhance the umami in ingredients, the possibilities are endless.
Cool, casual option offering izakaya fare & a variety of sake choices in a refined space.

Reviews
The food was fantastic we had everything from bowl, soup, and sushi.
Our waiter was very attentive as possible, the place was packed with a line outside.
Our family would surely visit again.
Nice menù but can be better .
The location is not great there is a kind of smell that I do not like ..
The soy sauce that the make ( smoke ) is good
Salty, lacking fish flavor.
Udon overcooked, lackluster taste and texture. Vague uni flavor.
Atmosphere not bad. Server attentive.
Overrated.
We ordered 2 2-person combo, $70 each. It starts to amaze me when bluefin tuna sashimi was served, thick cutted, so fresh, the quality is as good as what we had in Tokyo! What touched me later were the rolls. Not only because of the perfect combination of ingredients, (three kinds of sashimi in one roll), but how subtle the chef treated the food. Even the cucumber/celtuce is cutted and shaped for ultimate taste and texture. We ordered four plates of rolls and all of them were served with different sauces, textures.
The only pity is that the food is so delicious that I didn’t have time to take photos, We ate every last bite of food. One of my friends even scoop the sauce. It’s definitely worth the money!
