I’ve been to a lot of Asian restaurants in search of Japanese food in Northern VA. Japomen is possibly my favorite restaurant. Right now my favorites are the chicken katsu and the Japomen ramen. The ramen was the perfect amount of spice for me.

10/10 Would eat here again.

New favorite spot! There was no good quality food in Hilltop and finally this delicious and halal restaurant arrived! A sign of higher end restaurant – the menu was perfectly sized, not a million dishes, just the right amount all quality restaurants focus on a select number of dishes vs several pages.

I was pleasantly surprised at how elevated the flavors, taste and presentation was for the sushi and chicken katsu. I recommend the white dragon roll and the chicken katsu dish to start. The chicken katsu dish came with a refreshing salad on the side that was very well paired with the richness from the crispy fried chicken. Service was FAST in the best way and very kind, attentive server refilling water and asking how the meal was. The ambiance is cozy yet modern and very clean, they sanitized each table after completion. So stoked to have this near our home. Thank you for the deliciousness!

From food to service, it’s always a pleasant experience when I dine in with family, friends, and solo. All the items that I’ve tried so far are delicious- well balanced and flavorful! My husband loves all the ramen selection. My favorite is the creamy crab wonton and white dragon sushi. I really also appreciate that the chef takes the time to make regular spicy mayo when I request it.

The customer service is always exceptional. It’s very rare especially this day and age. The chef and staff (especially Milton) always takes the time to chat, check on the guests, and is very attentive. We always leave happy and full after dining at Japomen Alexandria.

This was our first time dining here, and the entire experience exceeded our expectations! From the moment we arrived, the atmosphere was warm, vibrant, and inviting.

Our waiter, Milton, was incredibly welcoming and attentive, making us feel right at home and guiding us through the menu with great recommendations. The level of service truly elevated our evening.

The food was outstanding starting with the Bao Buns simple but perfectly balanced followed by the Mexican Roll full of flavor and delicacy. the Wagyu Ramen was absolutely phenomenal (1000% recommend!) as well as the Pork-belly Ramen and full of fresh flavor and creativity followed by a Large Sake ( Cheers)!

Thank you, Milton, for making our first visit such a memorable experience. We’ll definitely be coming back again soon!

A new spot in the Hilltop Village Center. Their ramen was delicious, closest brothy goodness we’ve had since our trip to Japan and a generous amount of toppings. Some locations in the area are super short on the toppings, not a problem here. The chicken katsu was nicely crisp. The sushi rolls were all perfectly yummy.

The service was quick and responsive, very courteous. We will definitely be back to try other items on the menu like the sushi tacos!

I ordered the chicken katsu curry with rice, yakisoba with shrimp, boa buns with spicy pork and sushi (tuna lover roll and sakura roll). I spent 75 for the order. The chicken katsu was half edible. Half of it was like freezer burned and chewy. It was inedible. The other half of it was ok. You could even tell from how it looked the other half that the texture was different. The yakisoba was ok. It didn’t taste like standard yakisoba. It also only had 7 very small shrimp. The boa buns were lackluster. They needed more veggies (picked veggies) to give it that crunch which is needed to texture. The flavor was ok. The sushi was good. The best dish was the tuna lover roll. Nice flavor and contrast in texture. I would probably not go again especially for how it cost.

I frequented Japomen often when they had a woodbridge location and was devastated when they closed. I’ve been going to the tysons location since the woodbridge one closed but I was so excited to find out one is now open in alexandria which is way closer to me!!! At this location, they take your order at the table rather than ordering and paying first. I always get the wagyu ramen which I love but I did find the broth a little sweeter than the other locations. The japo nuggets are always amazing and i tried the waygu nigiri and it was really good!! The wasabi under the beef threw me off at first since i’ve never had wasabi before but I still enjoyed it. I would have gotten another order of it if it wasnt $10 for 2 pieces lol I will definitely be back!

A New Gem at Hilltop – Japomen Brings Authentic Japanese Cuisine and Heartfelt Hospitality!

I’ve been eagerly anticipating Japomen’s grand opening for months, hoping it would bring something special to the Hilltop area—and it absolutely delivers!
From the moment we walked in, we were warmly greeted and promptly seated. The space immediately feels welcoming and serene, with decor that perfectly captures Japanese minimalism. Natural wood and bamboo accents, a calming color palette, and thoughtful design details make the restaurant both cozy and elegant.
The menu offers a wide array of authentic Japanese dishes, each clearly prepared with care and pride. The attention to detail in presentation and flavor really shines through.
For our meal, we started with the shrimp and vegetable tempura—light, crisp, and paired with a perfectly balanced dipping sauce. I then had the tonkotsu pork ramen, which was absolutely outstanding. The broth was rich yet refined, and the bowl was generously filled with tender slices of pork. Every bite reflected the kitchen’s meticulous craftsmanship.
Owner Peter was present throughout our visit, ensuring that every guest was having a great experience. Our server, Milton, made us feel genuinely welcome—attentive without being intrusive, and always with a smile. You can tell the entire staff takes real pride in what they do.
Japomen is exactly the kind of restaurant that makes a neighborhood feel special—authentic, heartfelt, and consistently excellent.
Welcome to Hilltop, Japomen—you’ve already gained a regular! I can’t wait to come back again (and again) to explore more of your amazing menu.

My sister and I decided to go here for a little ramen date and we were expecting a warm welcome but unfortunately that’s not what we received. I’ve been to the japomen in Vienna and when I went there, you normally order at the iPad and select dine in for if you want to dine in so when we walked into this one, that’s what I did. It gave me the option to select dine in and I ordered my food. While I was ordering, we were getting off putting stares from two women who I believe were servers but I just continued ordering. When we were done, my sister and I looked for a seat to sit so we can wait for our food to be served. The minute we sat down, we were asked by one of the ladies that was staring at us if we chose dine in, and we said yes. It also says it on the receipt that it printed for them and she was yelling at us and saying that we weren’t supposed to order at the iPad and that we were supposed to order with them but while I was ordering nobody mentioned that to us and they just stared at us. I even apologized and told her that I didn’t know that and she didn’t even acknowledge my apology and was rude while serving our food, I also had to ask for soy sauce bowl for my sushi before it was given to me and we had to get up and get our drinks from the counter which was horrible customer service. I’ve managed multiple businesses and have been in customer service for many years and that was the worst service I have ever received.

Food: the food overall was good but I paid extra for make it spicy but it wasn’t spicy and I was even afraid to ask for extra chili because of the rudeness of one of the servers. My sisters food was good as well however she was missing some ingredients that was listed in the description of the ramen she chose.

Overall:
I won’t be returning to this place and I’m really disappointed because this is the closest japomen to me and I was excited for it being closer but I guess I will make the drive to Vienna for better customer service and quality food.
