We visited this place and the food was honestly stunning — beautifully plated, super aesthetic, the kind of dishes you want to take a photo of before eating. Taste-wise it was good, but not amazing in my opinion; more about the visual experience than a flavor punch. The window seats were lovely though — such a pretty view that made the meal feel relaxing and calm. The service was great and very respectful, which added to the overall nice vibe. If you enjoy pretty plating, a nice view, and a peaceful dining atmosphere, it’s worth checking out.

We had the 9 course Sakura dinner and it was incredible. Beautifully presented, delicious (especially the sashimi and duck soup), and filling – a great introduction to a variety of Japanese cuisines.

The service was impeccable. We were the only diners, and so it felt intimate and private. Our server even sent us back to our hotel in a private car!

Wonderful experience, great value for money.

Unbelievably Bad — A Mockery of Fine Dining

Kaiseki Kadan was one of the worst meals I’ve ever had—and certainly the worst value. We paid $450 for two people for the chef’s tasting menu, and left stunned by how disappointing the entire experience was.

The dining room was loud and chaotic. Other patrons (hotel guests) were so disruptive it felt like we were trapped in a satire of luxury tourism—think the Ratliffs from White Lotus Season 3, only somehow worse. It completely shattered any sense of calm or ceremony the meal was supposed to offer.

The food? Technically plated but completely bland. Course after course arrived with no flavor, no soul, and no point of view. A five-dollar bento box from a train station we had yesterday was far more satisfying and delicious.

Fish filled with bones, bland shrimp dumplings in watery broth, and an entire bowl of rice with a few kernels of corn were shockingly unremarkable. A few bites of steak and sashimi were good, but could be purchased from any izakaya in Tokyo for a fraction of the price.

We spoke to the manager, who was kind and clearly aware something was off. But all she could do was comp the $15 worth of whiskey highballs we ordered, which felt like a hollow gesture after such a disappointing night.

This meal wasn’t just bad—it was unforgettable in the worst way. A true mockery of fine dining. Avoid this restaurant at all costs.

We ordered Sakura kaiseki meal which consists of 9 courses. All good, especially the sashimi and the starter which consists of little bits and pieces (fish, veg). If only the set had some sushi in place of one of the grilled dish, it would have been better (just my preference). As little as each course may appear, by the end of the meal, we were all FULL! The only thing that we found a bit “off” is that the price on the website said it included service charges and taxes (¥10,000/set) but in reality taxes were not included and we paid taxes extra (¥10,000/set + 8%tax). Other than this, it was a nice experience.

Food was generally okay. Not bad at all.
I just didn’t like the decor and the ambience.

Services were good though. The lady who served us spoke Mandarin and she was great.

Fresh ingredients, packed with flavour, prepared with lots of finesse and skill. Wonderfully seasonal, as all kaisekis are.

During the reservation process it was not appropriately communicated that some in my group had dietary restrictions, though I don’t believe this to fall upon the staff. Upon being served our first dish, we made staff aware of the situation and accommodations were made on the spot which is rare in a country so dead-set on things being the way they are (you know what I mean if you’ve heard the words “it is not possible”).

The course at the time (early February 2025) was presented beautifully, though some of the dishes were admitted beyond some of my group’s palettes, including my own. The sashimi was good even though I struggled with the raw shrimp. The beef was okay, but there was an overpowering taste from the wine it was cooked in. The pickles were refreshing and very delicious.

The staff was very polite and made an effort to explain the dishes and their preferred eating methods despite a strong language barrier.

We gad the Sakura set lunch. Excellent presentation and taste.

This was the single worst meal experience we’ve had in Japan. The food was insultingly mediocre. What little food they do serve is rushed past you with no explanation nor care. It is like eating at a Days Inn, but for $400. Avoid this like the plague.

Super fancy course meal that seems to have many traditional Japanese components. While some of the lead up courses were not really fitting of our Western tongues we found the main course to be absolutely amazing! We suggest the beef course as they brought it out on a coal fired skillet for which you could cook it to your perfection. Was some of the most delicious beef and salmon we have ever had.
