Just a short drive from the park, this cozy, no-frills eatery serves up traditional Cajun favorites with heart and flavour.
From gumbo to jambalaya and fried catfish, every bite felt like a taste of Louisiana’s rich culinary heritage.
The portions were generous, the seasoning spot-on, and the service was warm and welcoming – exactly what you hope for in a local gem.
If you’re visiting the park and looking for a true taste of the region, don’t miss Jan’s. It’s the kind of place that makes you feel right at home.
We stopped here for lunch prior to a swamp tour. The building seemed to be new, clean, plenty of parking, and had a patio. The service was wonderful – zero complaints there.
However, the food was not very good. We ordered the shrimp cocktail as an appetizer, which was served with chilled mini shrimp. For entrees, we ordered a grilled cheese/fries for our son and we both got the “stuffed crab” po’boy after our waitress highly recommended it. The bread was thick and chewy, you had to tear it with each bit, and the “crab” was.. well, brown-grey mush with not a great flavor at all. On our receipt, it was labeled “crab cake”. Neither of which I believe are fitting for whatever it was. We also ordered a cup of the gumbo. Again, not a good flavor nor do I believe a good representation of cajun – it was kinda bland and bleh. The fries were great, crispy and warm. Maybe it was an off day, and I dislike leaving less than stellar reviews, but overall our experience was sadly not good.
When you walk into the new place, you instantly feel at home. The atmosphere is cozy and inviting, with just the right amount of rustic Cajun style and memorabilia. The staff is as friendly as ever—they greet you like family and make sure you have everything you need.
Now, let’s talk about the food: The fried seafood is some of the best you’ll find in southeast Louisiana—it’s perfectly seasoned, crispy, and never greasy. Whether you go for the shrimp, catfish, or oysters, you’re getting fresh, high-quality seafood that’s cooked to perfection.
If seafood isn’t your thing, the menu has plenty of options for meat lovers. They have original specialty burgers and the BEST Philly cheesesteak, among other great choices. Between their daily specials and occasional pop-up events, the menu always keeps things exciting. You’ll definitely get your money’s worth with their generous portions—you won’t leave hungry!
I give Jan’s a solid 10/10. It’s amazing to see this beloved restaurant bounce back after such a devastating storm. If you’re looking for authentic Cajun seafood with great service and a welcoming atmosphere, this is the place to be. Jan’s is back, and they’re even better than ever.
Try the loaded shrimp potato. Dear Lord!
Burgers, fried seafood, & onion rings just as good.
Nice clean atmosphere. Sweet servers.
We’ll be back!
Family owners were very nice.
We enjoyed the local food freshly cooked and we enjoyed the quiet place and view.
