I have fond memories visiting JSJ growing up and came here for dinner again recently; the food was even better than I remembered. I got the oyster tofu soup for a chilly day (another dish I don’t see commonly at Korean restaurants. It hit the spot, and they were generous with the oysters. The banchan tasted fresh and house-made, and completed the meal perfectly.
The plaza is sadly dying, and the restaurant has a large alarming whiteboard sign at the entrance warning people not to leave valuables in the car. I hope the restaurant does okay–they are so under-rated compared to the trendy new (somewhat overpriced) places like Kunjip in MV and 10 Butchers.
Service was good, food arrived fairly quickly, bathrooms were well kept. There are also several tables with kBBQ grills. I’m going to make it a point to come here more often to support their business.
What really disappointed me was the service at the end. We took 1 hour to finish our meal. After that, my friend and I stayed to chat for about 20–30 minutes. Around 5:15 p.m., when the restaurant was only about half full and there were plenty of empty tables, the server came over, took our cups without asking, and said “okay,” clearly signaling that we should leave. This felt so rude, especially given that the restaurant was not busy. I have never experienced this kind of treatment at a restaurant in the U.S.
Overall, while some of the food was good, the overly salty dish and especially the poor service left a very bad impression.
I love this place — it’s near my home, and every time we stop by the staff is nice, kind, and welcoming. We always enjoy having our lunch or dinner here because the food is always fresh, delicious, and full of authentic Korean flavor.
The dishes are perfectly cooked and full of taste, and the atmosphere makes you want to come back again and again.
If you’re looking for the best Korean food in the area, this is definitely the place to go.
We got granted with 8 different side dish first before our main dish coming, especially liked their kimchi, sweet and tangy.
The spicy beef soup surprised us with a ton of flavor and savory together. We love it!
Food was really good, service was quick. Love it!
Edit: when I traveled to Seoul this year, one local coworker recommended a Bay Area Korean BBQ restaurant to me, and it was this one. Small world 😉
