Decided to try a new-to-me place. So glad I did!
Everything was just so delicious!
Had the Jerk Chicken and the Catfish platters. Both quite tasty!
Also tried the Jerk Chicken quesadilla! It’s 1000% better than it sounds. Exquisite. Mouthwatering. Best quesadilla I’ve ever had!

So stop in and give them a try! You won’t be disappointed.

Just like the beautiful island of Jamaica. The staff are so friendly and talkative to patrons. The food is so delicious and takes me back to my trip in Jamaica. A must for all Tucsonans to come and eat. Highly recommend. I’ll be back for more

Ordered the jerk chicken combo, fried chicken combo, chicken and waffle (expect to pay $3 more for an enhanced waffle such as caramel), macaroni and cheese, coleslaw, cabbage, and rice and red beans. It was pricey for dinner. Expect to pay $20 per meal. I would recommend lunch pricing or sharing a meal at dinner to save on costs since the dinner portions are a tad pricey. Three people, no drinks and around $70 for all combo plates. Good service, somewhat slow but hey you’re getting Caribbean/ soul food and the grill takes time!

Easily one of my favorite places off first time experience. Had the jerk chicken, with Mac and banana pudding. Worth the wait ! I wish more people knew about it. Service was a few minutes slower bcz there was a rush of people near closing, but they still found time to greet, talk, laugh with everyone, get all the food made, AND take care of everyone. The owner reminds me a lot a home with her warm and playful demeanor. And whoever was on aux needs a contract because they were playing hits after hits! I will be back!

“Came back to visit again after half a year. The food is just as good as always, and I was surprised to see so many waffle flavors this time. The banana pudding was amazing. The prices are still super affordable — really glad they’re back!

Food: I had the curry goat, it was solid. The flavors were there. I just kinda wish there was some marrow to suck out of the bones. I suppose D’s Island Grill had me spoiled there. The seafood pasta side had like one bit of fake crab and that’s it.

My wife is vegetarian, the lady on staff was happy to give her larger sides to make for a better meal. She had the kale salad and the cabbage. The kale salad didn’t have any carribean flair – something I’d expect from Whole Foods. The cabbage was good though and had quite a pleasant kick.

Service: Personable but stretched way too thin. Poor lady was running everything herself. Seems like the men of the establishment just didn’t give a crap. She mentioned they were away at some event.

Atmosphere: actually kinda cute. The space was bright, open, and airy. A well designed space that felt inviting.

Conclusion – While it didn’t feel like highway robbery like Kingston Kitchen / CeeDee did, I left kinda unimpressed for the reviews I saw. I suppose there will always be a hole in my culinary heart where D’s Island Kitchen once was.

I can’t believe I haven’t been here sooner. I discovered Janet and Ray’s by searching food near me . I was tired of the same old same old that I get every week and wanted to try something different. Janet and Ray’s was perfect because I’ve actually been hungry for catfish but haven’t had the time to fish lately. All the food was delicious! I got the fried catfish dinner with potato salad and festivals. I did get tartar sauce to go with the fried catfish but it had enough flavor on its own that it really didn’t need it. I wasn’t expecting the potato salad to be spicy and I’ve never had spicy potato salad before but I definitely will be getting it again.
I had originally wanted collard greens to go with my fried catfish but they only have it on certain days so I will definitely come back to try other options and the collard greens. I know today was the day that they have oxtail or curry goat both are things that I have never tried but I will definitely try it on another day. I am also looking forward to trying the lobster mac and cheese. I’m always willing to try something new because you don’t know if you like it or not if you don’t try it.

The menu blackboard has no prices listed. They served the jerk chicken but never gave us silverware- we had to ask! No ice for water & they sweetened the ice tea before serving it. The catfish was flavored but served with no silverware. Ordered rice but not available. Had to take plantains to go because they never were served with my catfish. A table came in after us & left because no one asked them to order. A disaster in terms of service! And over priced.
Will never return.

March 2nd R&B brunch was a great success and so much fun. The food was amazing! We ordered oxtails and curry goat along with mimosas. Come back for the next one to support this black owned, black women owned establishment!

Went for the first time tonight and will be back soon! Had the seafood Mac n cheese which was huge and amazing! Husband had the jerk chicken and the spice was perfect! Great service and wonderful people!

We’ve back a few times since and I will give them a five star review every time! The catfish with the mac and cheese are my favorite but my husband tried the curry goat tonight and my goodness, it was to die for!
