Reviews
Today we ordered a Chicken Special Biryani (family pack) and two Goat Haleems. Unfortunately, the food was extremely disappointing.
The chicken in the biryani was very hard, had no flavor at all, and did not taste fresh.
The haleem was even worse — it did not taste like haleem at all. It was overloaded with mint (pudina) and large slices of fried onions, and the texture and flavor were completely off. This is honestly the worst haleem I have ever had.
We spent $91 on this food, and it was a complete waste of money. We are not from Virginia — we were traveling and ordered the food to go. By the time we reached home and tried to eat it, we realized how bad the quality was. If I were local, I would have gone back and thrown it at the restaurant.
Before posting this review, I called the restaurant to give my complaint. I spoke with a lady, and instead of addressing the issue, she said that two other customers had ordered the same food and did not complain. That response was very unprofessional and unacceptable.
This was one of the worst food experiences I have ever had. Extremely disappointed.
My friends and I visited Janatha Restaurant tonight during heavy snow, hoping to enjoy a good meal together. We came in person without calling ahead and spoke directly with the owner, who was sitting inside the restaurant. We asked him to recommend the best dishes available at the time and ordered exactly what he suggested.
One of my friends specifically ordered the special goat pulao based on the owner’s recommendation. However, when we got home, we discovered that we were given shrimp biryani instead. This was especially concerning because my friend has a shrimp allergy. We immediately called the restaurant to explain the issue and asked if we could receive the goat pulao we had ordered. Instead, we were given excuses and only refunded for the item.
While a refund was issued, that does not make the situation right. We went out of our way in difficult weather to support the business and enjoy a meal together, and accuracy, especially with food allergies should be taken seriously.
Additionally, the goat dum biryani family pack we ordered had meat that smelled unpleasant, and the boti fry, priced at $30, was overwhelmingly spicy with very little meat. It felt more like red chili paste than an actual dish.
Overall, the food quality and lack of accountability were very disappointing. Customers should not be taken for granted, especially when they trust recommendations given directly by the owner. I sincerely hope the management reflects on this experience and improves both food quality and customer service. If a business cannot be handled responsibly and with care for customers, changes need to be made.
After being on the call for over 6 minutes, I mentioned that this issue could easily be solved with a simple solution. However, rather than apologizing or taking responsibility, Raghu passed the call to his front desk staff, instructing them to either bring the biryani refill or apologize.
We even went to the restaurant (Janata Bar) by 9:48 PM, only to find it closed — leaving the issue unresolved.
Such poor customer service and unprofessional behavior are completely unacceptable. I would never recommend this restaurant to anyone in the Ashburn or Herndon area.
A gentle reminder to the management — always remember, the customer is like a god. Treat them with respect, and they will return. Ignore them, and you lose them forever.
My go to picks are Nalli Gosh Biryani and Raju Gari Biryani
I recommend this for Good portion, taste and price too
– Mutton Sukka was good, though the quantity was smaller.
– Chicken Kara Podi was amazing!
– Shrimp was okay.
– Rabbit meat was tender and delicious.
The pulav and chicken dishes were also good, although the chicken could have used a bit more salt. We were disappointed to find out they didn’t have goat intestines, which was one of the reasons we visited.
The service was good, and the staff recommended some special dishes that were really good. The food arrived quickly and hot on Sunday afternoon. One notable observation was the liberal use of green chilies – there were more than 10 in every dish!
Overall, we had a mixed experience, but the staff’s recommendations and quick service made up for some of the shortcomings.’’
The restaurant’s ambiance was equally impressive
absolutely top-notch! The Nalli Ghost Biryani was the star of the evening — rich, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. The meat was so tender and aromatic, every bite felt like a treat.
It’s refreshing to find a restaurant that balances authenticity, flavor, and hospitality so well. Hats off to the team for such passion and quality — will definitely be returning and recommending to friends!
As someone who’s experienced real Hyderabadi food, I can confidently say this is the closest I’ve tasted in the U.S. It’s more than just food — it’s nostalgia served on a plate.
Below is the order, top one being the good ones and so on
1. Spl Chicken Biriyani – was good spicy, good amount of chicken and well cooked
2. Jackfruit Biriyani – unexpectedly tasty, was looking yummy, give it a try
3. Gongura Biriyani – It was decent, although very spicy than usual, couldn’t even finish
4. Chicken Dum Biriyani (Photos)- Bought a family pack, and was soo watery, there was no dum in this biriyani, even by the looks of it, seemed off.
5. Goat Dum Biryani – oh God, they messed it up and didn’t put any meat in it, just got plain rice.
6. Rasmalai – Visible that it been kept in fridge for weeks, the Ras was all gone.
