I drove over 45 miles for this. James Brown, this was your first and your last. We spent almost 80.00 on 3 rib dinners, 1 chicken dinner and a side of okra. Y’all can do better than this for 20.00, then charge me .80 cents for using my debit card for 1 dinner. Never again. It’s not worth it. I dont know if they were running out of food or what. I had to stop by Island Choice on my way back home…so disappointed with this BBQ. 3 bones and beans taste like they straight out the can.

Off the beaten path, came over from the Marriott because if reviews ! Got the dinner combo and it’s great ! Absolutely love there hot bbq sauce the cook makes it himself it’s got white vinegar and cayenne pepper in it , I could drink it woofed down as much as I could inside the AC really isn’t freezing but it’s perfectly fine considering it’s 98 outside, come over and support these nice folks there was a steady stream of takeout so everything fresh

Brisket cooked OK but sliced wrong (my meal was thin like roast beef, and not a 1/4″ cut across full length like usual). Honestly underwhelming both in taste and portion size (~2oz) for the $5.50 it cost. I’m surprised at the other reviews for the brisket. Does not rank favorably with Franklin’s, Lewis’ or Scott’s. Ribs however were seasoned well, great ring and perfect color but the pull was a bit too strong. low scores for tenderness around 4/9. In all fairness I did stop in shortly before closing time (7pm) so they like have been in a faux cambro for some time vs. fresh off the smoker. Approximately $17 total for 1/2 rack ribs and two slices of thinly sliced sad sad brisket. On a positive note, its by far the best BBQ I’ve had in this town but overall that’s not saying much as Sonny’s is a horrible abomination and Cody’s ribs tastes like they are boiled in liquid smoke before being carelessly tossed on a grill. James Brown’s decor is exactly what I’d expect a mom and pop rib joint to look like and the staff seemed friendly and accommodating. Overall B-

Rib plate & Pulled Pork plate for lunch today. Food was really awesome. Ribs and Pork are a true winner when sauce is not needed. The flavor is all that without any sauces. Hush Puppies, Beans, Mac n Cheez, Yellow rice, & 2 pieces of corn bread sides were also good. Peach cobbler as a dessert was the perfect finishing touch. They do get quite busy so allow plenty of time for your food. I called in at 1101 and was supposed to take 15-20 minutes but actually took right at 45 minutes. Well worth the wait tho. Prices are really affordable and the portions are good size. I did take out but, the A/C didn’t really work inside but again, the food is so worth it.

We have never gotten any food from Mr. Brown that wasn’t mouth watering and delicious. He has the absolute best ribs, pulled pork, chicken, hamburgers and Philly cheesesteak. We haven’t tried his other foods, but I’m sure I’d feel the same about those as well. The staff are so sweet and kind never an impatient attitude from them. It will always be one of our go to places. I’ve told Mr. Brown he can never retire!!

This was a meal that we can’t quit thinking about!! My husband, daughter and I shared a a full rack of ribs, a whole chicken, and a pound of brisket… a lá carte. It was all amazing!!! The service was amazing and eating in the tiny little hole in the wall restaurant just added to the whole experience. Can’t wait to visit this area so we can eat there again!!
