We got the masala dosa (with gunpowder) to split, and for myself I got an order of garlic naan, and the paneer jalfrezi. I will say, we seriously underestimated the size of the dosa! This thing was MASSIVE. Like, it literally was the length of the table . Granted most of it was the thin, crispy shell but still. That being said though, it was delicious! The outer shell was crispy and aromatic, and the potato filling was creamy and smooth. I do wish it was a lot spicier though, for something labeled as “gunpowder” it did not pack the spicy punch I expected.
My paneer jalfrezi was also really good. The sauce was tangy and flavorful, with tantalizing aromas from the spices. The creamy paneer melted in my mouth, making for a wonderful medley of textures and aromas when combined with the naan and rice.
I would totally recommend Jalsa if you’re in the area, especially for vegetarians and vegans! Most of the menu is vegetarian friendly, and the portions are large for the price!
Hope to be back sooner this time around.
A massive thank you to Naushin (Nowshin Ali), who was instrumental in helping us arrange every detail of the event. She was incredibly accommodating and made the planning process seamless. One of the most impressive parts of our visit was the staff’s flexibility; while the restaurant typically closes at 10:00 PM, they graciously extended their hours until midnight just for our group so we could fully enjoy our celebration.
The atmosphere was perfect for a large family event—the space is beautiful, unpretentious, and very spacious. The kids had an absolute blast, especially with the serving robot, which was a huge hit and kept them entertained throughout the night.
The food was, as always, delicious and authentic, and the service remained top-notch even with such a large crowd. If you are looking for a place in Brooklyn that can handle big groups with warmth and professional care, I cannot recommend JALSA enough.
Thank you, Naushin, and the entire JALSA team for making our night so memorable!
The chicken tikka masala was equally excellent, but what really stood out where the lamb Samosa’s, brittle on the outside, moist and succulent and savory on the inside. This places is a place for people who do know how cook the different dishes they serve here but don’t feeling like cooking. It’s my first ordering but will not be my last time.
The goat nihari and the winter saag special were both incredible. I’m also so pleased we got the jackfruit kabab because somehow I liked it even more than its lamb counterpart- which was also very good btw.
Can’t wait to return.
As for the food, we were thoroughly impressed with several dishes, which we found to be standout highlights: the Vegetarian Dahi Puri and Vegetarian Palak Chaat were particularly incredible, followed closely by the Salmon Fish Tikka, Butter Chicken, Chicken Tikka Masala, and Garlic Naan.
However, I was a bit disappointed with the Jalsa Chicken Dum Biryani, as it turned out to be drier than I had hoped.
Would we return? Absolutely!
The meal was absolutely fantastic, and the service was just as good. The depth of flavor the dishes possessed were a joy to experience. As the meals came out, the aromas indicated that this would be a meal to remember. The aromas were not wrong.
The staff at Jalsa were patient with our students, many of whom are from outside the U.S., and they even arranged for their service robot to deliver a tasty treat and then to sing happy birthday to one of our students for her special day.
This was truly an event we’ll remember for a long time to come.
