Still the gold standard for tapas in the DC area. I’ve been to his Vegas location and several Bazaar locations and Zaytinya, but this one is still my favorite restaurant in his restaurant empire. Make sure you make a reservation as this place is always packed. I’ve noticed the menu has shrunk compared to years past, but his most popular tapas are still on the menu. Their sangria and gin and tonic selections are hard to beat.
If it’s your first time and are very hungry, I would recommend doing one of their tasting menu’s. It’s hard to choose my favorite tapas, but I tend to always order the Carne Asada con Piquillos, Pan Con Tomate, ibérica ham (this is a must order), Gambas Al Ajillo, Butifarra Casera con Mongetes and Croquetas. For veggies, hard to beat the Setas and Espinacas a la Catalana. Save room for their flan! It is a perfect way to end your meal. For drinks, get the table side sangria- great presentation.

Jaleo DC never disappoints. From the moment you walk in, the energy is vibrant and welcoming, and the space perfectly captures that lively Spanish spirit. The tapas are consistently outstanding full of flavor, beautifully presented, and perfect for sharing for 4. Every dish we tried was a hit, especially the classics and the seasonal specials.

Went for a restaurant week lunch deal and it was great! Loved the mushrooms and patatas bravas and the addition of dates in the cauliflower dish was great. Service was speedy and it was busy during lunch so I’d make a reservation. Will come back to try the paella!

In 2010 Chef Andres opened World Central Kitchen. He has been named one of Time magazines “100 Most Influential People” in 2012 & 2018, awarded the 2015 National Humanity Medal from President Obama and is an internationally recognized humanitarian. He’s also a New York Times best selling author.
The tapas aka small plates are designed to be shared, and they are the best authentically Spanish and local ingredients tapas, all inspired by Chef Jose Andres’ childhood.
We were a party of six and wisely made a reso. Our table was ready for us and we started off with some cocktails and got right into it with the food because hey small plates are cool like that.
Being a party of six we shared a lot; too much to describe here, but the pictures of the food speak for themselves! Suffice it to say that we had a wide selection of meat, seafood, and veggies, followed up with dessert and of course good wine throughout. LQQK at those pics & you’ll understand.
Service was exemplary and the ambience was perfectly lively and fun.

What can I say about Jaleo that hasn’t already been written? I can reiterate for the millionth time just how fantastic this place is. I went to the DC location for the first time for NYE (been to Vegas several times). It was busy but such a great place to have an NYE dinner. The pan con tomate is my favorite dish at any restaurant EVER. It is so simple, and insanely scrumptious. The olive oil, the fresh tomato, the BREAD (flown in from Spain), and I have to order it with the manchego cheese. It is pure heaven in a bite. The apple fennel salad is also life changing, just a perfect combination of flavors with salty, crunchy, little tart, little sweet, just so good. And that rice pudding is the stuff of dreams. Two key components that blew my mind: the lemon zest (turns ordinary boring rice pudding into an explosion of flavor) AND the toasted rice krispies on top…genius! Adds an extra dimension of texture and crunch that is now necessary. I was so so full but couldn’t help but inhale way too many bites of this lovely rice pudding. The staff were extremely kind, it was very busy but we felt well cared for, and the women’s bathroom is a trip. Jaleo is a must do and our bill for 2 after drinks, several tapas, dessert and coffee was $120. Exceptionally affordable for a top tier restaurant, and you know your money is funding such a good cause (World Central Kitchen if you haven’t heard). Bless you for this inspired menu, José, cheers.

Pretty decent dishes and reasonable price. We reserved a table but it wasn’t too busy when we arrived. Waiter was pretty friendly and patient on explaining the dishes and giving recommendations. The flavor of the food is on the heavier side for my personal liking but overall good vibes good food.

The selection of cured meats, ensalada campera, and rabbit confit were nice, but the chorizo was bland, the pan con tomate was a bit soggy and seemed like it had been sitting around for a while, and the fried cod fritters were mostly potato. Unfortunately, they were also out of the calamari and chistorra when we ordered.
Service wasn’t great upon arrival; we arrived on time for our reservation but still had to wait 15 minutes for our table to be ready. I found the decor to be really strange, as well, with a weird photo collage of feet behind the bar. However, service from our waiter was good once we were seated and I liked that the restaurant accepts InKind payment, allowing you to get 20% back in app credit.

Honestly, to me, the food was not that good. They didn’t come out very hot, and you could tell the quality of the ingredients wasn’t that high. While my wife did like the experience overall and she did enjoy the pairings of different flavors, I didn’t think overall the food was that good. Especially for the price you’re paying, I really expected more. We had the shrimp with garlic, and While I was expecting a lot from this, it really felt short. It just tasted like regular shrimp, it didn’t come out that hot, and the bread tasted like normal restaurant quality bread. I’m a little let down with the Jose Andres Brand after this experience. I also went to China chilcano, that experience was a little bit of a letdown too. I don’t know if the Jose Andres Brand has started using different suppliers for food or something, but the quality different shows. I am very letdown with the overall experience, even though the staff was very nice and the ambience was great. Overall, though, what is a restaurant if not for food? And in this case, the food was a huge letdown. Jose Andres, please increase the food quality at your restaurants.

Food was amazing, you should always go in groups here so that you can taste a bunch of different things, my favourite was the garlic squid with squid in dips however the I rolled pasta was just as good. Service was amazing however it can get busy so I do recommend that you book a table beforehand so that there is no waiting time. All dishes are excellent however the chefs menu I heard is very good
