A small quiet family owned restaurant that was recommended to us by our captain on the swamp tour and touted as a “very good place to eat authentic New Orleans” I would have to sadly disagree. The establishment gave a 1950’s type vibe both in aesthetic and the demographic of the patrons. As soon as we walked in all eyes were on us. It was pretty hot inside as the establishment does not have central AC. The rice in the gumbo was very undercooked, the jambalaya looked like it came out of an uncle Ben’s rice bag. The fried fish was cooked well, but lacked some seasoning. My shrimp and pasta with two crab stuff balls, was ok at best. The “crab” stuffed balls were deep fried stuffing with a crab flavoring. The best tasting thing we had was my kids fried shrimp and French fries. I would have honestly given the place 2 stars but our waitress was such a kind sweet soul and really elevated our experience.

The potato salad seemed scooped straight from a container.
The fried catfish and chicken were both super oily and not fresh tasting.
The sausage and chicken gumbo tasted like it was from a can.
The best part were the noodles that came with the chicken parm.

Great food, great quantity and quality of dishes. Great service, and Shout out to Chastity! She makes our visits nice and is very attentive. And a good family place, not too hot or cold and not loud or too crowded. It’s comfortable and delicious, will come again!

Jake’s was recommended to us by a Friend from the area. This was a great surprise. The Food was great and the servers very friendly. Don’t be put off by the exterior come in and try it! It won’t disappoint!

, but they’re definitely a TRUE one! Jake’s is still cooking filling locals and visitors bellies with yummy homelike cooked meals. From their Fried Fish ,to their Gumbo ,to their Club sandwich ,ALL are 5Star! They also have Shrimp Aubrey, which is Soo good! Definitely recommend.

Amazing food and great, friendly service from Tiffany and the team. Wholesome food in a warm friendly setting. Would thoroughly recommend a visit and the shrimp po-boy with a cup of gumbo with the hot sauce

When we arrived there are many regulars, which were an older demographic.. food was basic and plain . Service was good and the AC was broken. Prices are good. We ordered fried fish w/ shrimp and okra creole , then crawfish etoufee, and gumbo. Okra serving was not shy just seems very bland. Fried fish was nicely battered and fried but lacked flavor. Maybe it’s me.. Maybe my pallet doesn’t run the same. Seems like more of a local residence favorite hot spot. You can tell bc they have a wall of original pictures of their guests.

Fried shrimp and catfish were perfectly breaded and cooked. The location isn’t the best. Don’t judge the inside or the food by the outside. The pasta and crab balls were not our favorites. We’ll definitely return to try the buffet. They do that on certain days and nights. Staff nice and friendly. Place was hopping on Thursday night. See the menu pics for prices. Kids menu available.
