TD:DR – one of my new favorite bars, not just in Arvada or greater Denver meteo area, but in the entire front range. I can only think of only a few spots I have been to for quite some time that even compare.
I happened upon this gem “accidentally, on purpose” few months back. Living about 2 hrs outside of Denver tends to require me to packing many different stops in all corners of the metro area any time I make the trip to the city. On this occasion, after endure particularly bad interstate traffic for a good portion of my trip, I decided to take surface roads from my first stop in Wesstmister to my next destination in Wheat Ridge. Hot, hungry and slightly irritated, I began meandering just off of the main thoroughfare looking for a place to eat with only one condition in mind, I did NOT want to go to a corporate chain restaurant. The high fence of the relatively large patio was the first thing that caught my eye amd with no expectations have it a shot. The minute I walked in the front door I knew I would love this place. The small bar area housed a stage, two pool tables, some booths an a few high tops. It was mid afternoon on a weekday so there was only a handful of folks mingling about and a number of people were setting up a free poker game. From the small group of people setting up a feee poker gamen to the quick glace twords the door as I entered the room, not leering or judgmental, just 2 or 4 people at he bar eager to greet a familiar face, the whole vibe felt cozy and depite its small size, was not cramped in the least even as more people came in around happy hour. I had not even made it to my seat yet and already forgot about any irritation cause by the drive. The bartender, Rachel was friendly and outgoing, with just enough spice in her banter to make me feel like i had been comin in for years. I was excited to spot a board with offering “off the smoker” but unfortunately the selection was quite small… bad luck will have to revisit that next time. I settled on a Philly cheese steak, and it turned out to be **expletive deleted** bomber. I do recall the exact price of the food, and I don’t really care, it was reasonable, and it was worth it. Beer was cheep. I have returned 3 times now to eat, never been let down. In fact for my 2nd visit, couldn’t remember the crossroads and was blanking on the name. All I could remember slightly off Wadsworth somewhere in Arvada or Wesminster. I just kinda lopped around for 15 min or so till I recognized Lamar St followed that till I arrived(from 7nd). I Got Jalapeño Cheese Burger(no complaints, and fresh jalapeño is always a plus), the Barn Burner Melt(highly recommend, delickous and unique) nett and on my last visit, the smoked wings(only thing to say about them would be…yes). I try to make a point go here every time I am in the metro area, even if it means going well out of my way(I rarely find myself in Arvada for any reasons other than going to Jake’s). So many cool things about this bar, but my favorite bit is the whiteboard on the wall where you can buy a beer for someone who is not there, and put it on the board with their name, so they can claim it when they are in next, proving this is a true local joint were people go to enjoy a beer some buddies, eat some great grub, shoot some stick, and make new friends.
If we could say anything it would be if you like the wings crispy ask for them to be extra crispy other then that we will come and enjoy more often. We can even walk from our house. Great visit
