Stopped in to get a sampling of their food because I am going to have them cater my birthday party. We ordered the q sampler getting the shredded chicken and sliced brisket. It was absolutely the best brisket I’ve ever had. Flavor was perfect, the meat was tender and it wasn’t dried out at all. We also tasted the baked beans and coleslaw. Both of them were excellent. Of course you get a couple of hush puppies too. There are perfect, crunchy on the outside tender in the middle. Great flavor. It’s a cute place kind of out of the way on 54, but the wait staff were very friendly and helpful and even got to talk to Jake. He also let us sample the collared greens which were really good. The prices were very reasonable also. They have some really good looking desserts but there wasn’t any room.

Very cute place, (our first visit) we were warmly welcomed and seated quickly. We were so excited at all the incredible menu options to try.

Great pulled pork. The wood smoke flavor is stronger than in most pulled pork I’ve had so be aware of that. I liked their bbq sauce too. Mac and cheese is solid but basic so it’s good for kids or your can season it up. It’s in a small historic building so it’s a little tight but I like the historic aspect of it. Parking is limited and I didn’t see a designated takeout parking spot.

Great staff – small dining area but was accommodating enough for a baby stroller and high chair. Ordered the special of the day: fried catfish with German potato salad for $12.99. Nice atmosphere and great food.

We were seated for only 15 minutes before anyone came to take our order. No, we were not offered drinks when first seated. The waitress arrived and with no greeting asked what we wanted. It was then over 30 minutes before our food came out. The food was good, not over remarkable. However, it took only 6 minutes for the check to arrive after we refused dessert. There was this big scan notice on the check and I do not know how to scan. When I asked I was told I could pay up front and that scanning was new technology and the waitress and her friends laughed. I noticed another group greeted and asked for their orders with in 5 minutes of their being seated.

Delicious dinner. Hushpuppies are large and perfect. Loved the smoked chicken in the chicken salad. Hubby enjoyed the Shrimp Po’boy. Loved the taste of the fried pickles but the breading didn’t want to stay on them. Lots of other things we’d love to try. Definitely would come back. Service was friendly and quick.

I came to this restaurant based on Holcombe’s review of the establishment and it is on point. We and I mean we enjoyed the atmosphere, the service, and the food. It was great and I have nothing but a full stomach and a smile. Me and my husband had the rib sampler AMAZING! Hmmmmmmmmm Great is all I can say! Go there and enjoy your self. My Dwight said it was good tender and the applesauce is good!

Jake’s is a really good barbecue restaurant. The first way I tell if a barbecue restaurant is good is can I smell it and we could definitely smell the barbecue. The other thing is they try to do a little fun things with their barbecue like the redneck eggrolls that had collard greens pulled pork and was served with a bacon bourbon jam Yum. My boyfriend really liked her vinegar barbecue sauce and I really like the hush puppies!

Best BBQ in this area. Small dining area; recommend you make reservations to ensure you’ve got a table when you want it. Funky design and very helpful staff. Reasonably priced, as well. You won’t regret a visit here.

Food has great flavor, but the brisket was extremely chewy and not something that is suitable for a sandwich. I’ve gotten it before, and it was amazing. I also ordered a slice of chocolate cake, and it was dry, so I don’t think it was the freshest. I probably would opt for an appetizer instead of a dessert.
