Best meal I’ve had in Michigan in 4 years. Full stop.
Jake’s Old City Grill absolutely delivered from the moment we walked in. The owners took the time to share the history of the building — including the preserved bank vault artifacts — and you can genuinely feel that history in the atmosphere. This place has soul.
Now the food…
The surf and turf was next-level. The lobster tail was massive and cooked to perfection — not rubbery, not mushy… perfect.
The sirloin had that beautiful, high-quality char that tells you immediately: this steak does not need steak sauce.
Service was warm and attentive, the setting is upscale without being stuffy, and every detail feels intentional.
If you’re anywhere near Saginaw and want an elevated dining experience you won’t soon forget, do yourself a favor:

That shit was mad fire dawg, the drinks was impeccable, generously poured, and finessed in a way that made the liqqa hit with an anesthetic fury cause they was going down easy ya feel me. Hands down. Top 3 Palomas in the Midwest. Fr fr.
We got loud, sorry Paul, we were work colleagues, strangers forced to be around eachother for money. But we left at least acquainted and merry. Jake, youre the man for gracefully providing excellent and immaculate service for our table, Kudos and flowers.

The positive: food is absolutely stellar. The French dip was the best sandwich I’ve ever had. The loaded baked potato was divine. The service was great. The owners were lovely and the restaurant is beautiful.
The negative: we had a reservation for 9 people to celebrate a friend’s birthday. We had the misfortune of being in a full restaurant with patrons who nearly all were going to a show at the Temple theater. Even though we had a reservation just like everyone else, they made the decision to prioritize the tables who were there before the show to make sure their orders came out in enough time for the show (not my problem btw). We were told at the beginning of our dinner that it would be an hour before our food came out due to how busy they were. Our reservation was at 5. We ordered at 5:15. It was nearly 7 before our orders started coming out. You have reservations on the books. You know how many people are coming. You should account for that and have enough staff on hand to handle the volume of guests.
We were seated in the back room with two tables of perhaps the loudest people I’ve ever encountered in public. The first hour of our dinner was literally so loud that we could hardly talk to the friends near us at our table. The people at the two loud tables were quite literally screaming across their tables at each other, and it seemed the two tables were competing to see who could be the loudest. It was so unbearable, I had to go stand in the bathroom several times for some reprieve from the noise.
The food was so good that it made up for the long wait time, but it DID NOT make up for how unbearably loud the room was.

Excellent steak restaurant. We were visiting town and looked for somewhere that had good steak and seafood and this was it. I chose the sirloin with shrimp. The meat was cooked exactly how I requested it. The shrimp were good sized and very tasty. I had a Caesar salad to start with and it was perfect, Not too dry..Not too wet. The service was good. The server had great recommendations for us and she was very kind and attentive.

Dinner at Jake’s is a wonderful tradition that my friends and I have started many years ago for our December birthdays. Their food is always perfectly cooked, the drinks are well made and the atmosphere is beautiful with a touch of class. They make a salmon BLT that is so unique and delicious. You won’t be disappointed. Their staff is excellent and the owner is always so welcoming. I highly recommend this gem of a restaurant.

Very elegant restaurant that has preserved the history of the restaurant with the original owner’s (Jake’s) picture on the wall. The current owner (Paul) is very friendly and makes sure your dining experience is up to your standards. Food was professionally prepared and very delicious, including the salad and delectable chocolate truffle cake. The waiter, (Ben) recommended the orange creamsicle martini and it was the best martini I’ve had. I was celebrating a birthday and I immediately felt relaxed and special while dining here. We had the seared ahi as an appetizer it was delicious the Cesar salad we had before our meal was delicious and fresh we got the sea bass and lamb chops and split the plate it was amazing. It’s pricey but the flavor reflects the price and I would highly recommend this place if you’re looking for something delicious with no budget. If you’re looking for the cheaper side they have other things as well that are only 15-20 a plate. The waitress we had was great and she helped us with everything we needed.

This was my first time here. We took a tour of the inside since we had never been there before; lots of great history on the walls. We ate outside because the weather was perfect for a change. The Bloody Marys are excellent, as are the burgers. My burger was cooked absolutely perfectly, medium rare! Most restaurants overcook burgers. This one was wonderful. Our waiter, Jake, was very friendly and attentive. There’s quite a bit of traffic noise when you sit outside. It’s too bad they can’t have a patio back by the river so you can watch boat traffic instead of vehicle traffic. All in all, great experience!!!
