Where does one go on an overcast Sunday, mid afternoon for vegan lunch??? Omg! Jade Rabbit! (Actually Jade Rabbit any day is a VERY good day indeed!!)

Our usual “go to” spot was closed, so we opted to go somewhere we haven’t been yet. What an absolute GEM we found today!!
Greeted with beautiful smiles, radiant energy from staff, we immediately knew..we made THE best choice!

We were greeted by Luka (I hope thats the correct spelling, apologies if not.) SUPER kind! Very friendly. Walked us step by step on how things worked. We appreciated this forward approach. (22% gratuity is added to each tab. Which is fine by us! We tend to tip 20% plus, so that was not an issue.) We were greeted by another server, who was so awesome! (I am deeply sorry that I did not get the names of the other 2 servers.) We chose food items off the menu that was recommended as well as some tea.

Not only was the food top tier, but the music, energy from upbeat staff (and I caught a glimpse of the owners Grandma who is 85! She works there, she also has trained staff on making certain items. How incredible is that!?! She was so cute too! )

The establishment is very clean. Soft comfortable seats. Astmosphere flows. There is about 7 tables I believe, but unsure if there is more. There is also a small, intimate bar.

We did not have reservations but I can see why they recommend them.

Overall…Jade Rabbit was a win for us! We will be back!! Thanks so much!

What an absolute gem. We walked in here just on passing. I am not a vegan so I was initially a little disappointed, but we thought why not give it a shot.

The chili oil wontons and the shumai were mind blowing. Genuinely better than any meat based ones I’d ever had. We definitely recommend this to anyone, vegan or not. Coming back for dinner is a must for us now.

Excellent and adorable menu. I’ve had the bao buns from here shaped like bunnies – too cute, but today I got the World Vegan Month Special – the Faux-Squid Calamari and the chickk’n ramen. Both were flavorful and delicious. The calamari was crispy and a little spicy. My only complaint is they served it with too many jalapeños for my taste.
I love sitting outside on a sunny day, but if it’s raining, they have a cozy wood stove inside that makes for the perfect fall/winter vibe in Portland.

EXTREMELY disappointing. Would absolutely not recommend or return.

We had a reservation (so I know exactly what time we arrived) and were starving, which made us really excited to try this place. Unfortunately, it was a letdown across the board.

Atmosphere
The space is small and cozy but lacks a clear identity. You can spot several different Asian influences, but there isn’t a strong point of view tying it together. There’s a back dining room separated from the front by the bar. The space is clean and does give a bit of an “at home” feeling, which I liked.

Service
The customer service was honestly the only redeeming part. I didn’t catch her name, but the tall server with the cool hairstyle was working the entire front of house when we arrived. She was greeting guests, running the bar, and managing tables for the back and front dining rooms. She was friendly, calm the entire time, and professional, but clearly stretched thin. To no fault of hers, we ended up waiting 25 minutes just to place our order (again, with a reservation). At that time, there was only one other table of two in the front and no one at the bar. Eventually, she got some backup, but the wait really set the tone.

Food
This was the most disappointing part. With the steep prices and amazing food photos online, we expected a great meal. They were out of the adobo (the dish I was most excited for), so I ordered the mapo tofu. The food came out surprisingly fast considering how long it took us to place the order (about 15 minutes), and everything looked beautiful. Unfortunately, the taste didn’t match the presentation.

We ordered ($75 which includes 22% service fee):

– Turnip cakes: the only decent dish, mostly thanks to the sauce, since the cakes themselves were bland.

– Kimchi mung bean pancakes: bland, and the sauce was so salty it was inedible, leaving us with plain pancakes.

– Mapo tofu: tasted like it was just dusted with five spice and nothing else. Bland and very flat.

– Lo mei gai: again, bland and disappointing.

– Pandan carrot cake: good flavor but served cold and very hard (I even took a video to demonstrated how hard it was but Google won’t allow me to upload it ).

Overall
Between the high prices, under-seasoned food, slow service (despite the server doing her best), and a mandatory 22% service fee, this was a bad experience. Never again.

Very special vegan spot—especially if you crave dim sum or pan-Asian dishes without meat. The menu is creative , and environment is welcoming. Some of the dishes are impressive when you tried it for the first time. If you’re vegan, definitely worth checking out.
Rather than tipping, there’s a 22% service fee added to the table, but at least they keep you informed at the very beginning. It can be a bit overprice for me. Plus, this is a Resy restaurant.

One of my favorite restaurants in the Portland metro area. I have only received exceptional service from their staff. The staff here actively participate in your dining experience.

All staff are highly knowledgeable of menu items and their recipes. If you have dietary restrictions, you will never feel more cared for and prioritized.

The dishes are exquisite. Every. single. One!
I have never been disappointed and their drinks are paired perfectly to the menu’s diverse flavor profiles.

I am not a vegan or vegetarian and Jade Rabbit helped me understand you can feel sustained and satisfied with vegan/vegetarian meals. They have expanded my palate exponentially.

Our server was friendly, knowledgeable, and professional. The noodle soups are flavorful, and filling. The dumplings were adorably and tasty. Will definitely be back. Way better than .

Overall, the experience was just okay. The vibe was brought down by the outdoor and backyard areas, which didn’t feel very well-kept. While I tried several of the dishes, the taste was fairly average. It’s also worth noting they have a mandatory service tax and a no-tipping policy. Fine for a quick bite, but I likely won’t be rushing back.

I was disappointed with my experience there. The white rabbit buns were good but the rest just didn’t meet expectations. Green jade buns fell apart easily, the tofu bowl was dry and had one note of strong Szechuan seasoning. The dark side noodle was still hard and had picked veggie on the side that’s in large chunks (like it’s straight out of a supermarket pickled mustard green) and salty. I like the lotus wrapped rice except there was a strong piece of ginger and took over the entire flavor profile. Mung bean pancake we didn’t even eat it was thin, dry, and hard. They charge 22 percent on the check instead of asking for a tip but was understaffed. Had a hard time getting service. The restaurant was cold. I did love the hot sauce at the table very much.

We went to Jade Rabbit to celebrate Valentine’s Day (and our engagement). The food was amazing, the service was incredible and the atmosphere was great. I’m so happy we chose Jade Rabbit for such a special occasion. Can’t wait to be back in Portland to try the other half of the menu
