Flavored Chicken雲香雞: Originating from the “Yunxiang Lou雲香樓” restaurant in Guangzhou, this is an old-style Cantonese dish. I haven’t tried the original one myself, so I can’t comment on whether it’s authentic, but it tasted similar to what’s known as “salted chicken鹹雞” in Guangdong. The chicken itself was already salty enough, so the ginger and scallion sauce was a delightful addition to the rice – as all Cantonese know. It seems to be made with young hens; the skin was fragrant, moist but not oily, and the meat was tender and smooth, with a strong original aroma of chicken雞味. Even the chicken breast wasn’t dry at all. The simple salt-baking鹽焗 style and peanut oil seasoning perfectly brought out the chicken’s freshness and aroma. It was even delicious after being reheated the next day. It would have been even better if the chicken skin was crispy, but it’s hard to ask for more in the US.
Vegetables with Garlic蒜蓉菜遠: I haven’t had such flavorful stir-fried Choy Sum菜心 (Chinese Flowering Cabbage) in a long time. I even missed the Cantonese greens more than the chicken, so I ate the whole plate by myself. Stir-fried greens need a generous amount of oil to be truly fragrant.
This restaurant was packed on the first day of the Chinese New Year; being surrounded by Cantonese speakers felt so welcoming.
Absolutely amazing! After trying it, we have to admit their food is really delicious—every single dish we ordered was excellent. Next time, we’ll definitely try more dishes since they have such a wide variety to choose from, including fresh seafood, beef, pork, and chicken, all prepared in authentic Chinese style.
Our favorite is the crispy fried intestines—the skin is crunchy while the inside is tender and perfectly done. The Peking duck is another must-try, and don’t miss the salted fish fried rice, which is absolutely outstanding.
The atmosphere is lively and a bit noisy, but that’s part of the charm of a traditional Chinese restaurant. It’s perfect for dining out with friends.
Service is great, and the food comes out really fast. Highly recommended!
Staff are friendly and accommodating, does help if you speak Cantonese but many staff speak in English as well.
The food is pretty good for Chinese American dishes. The salt & pepper squid is pretty good at this establishment, lightly fried but has good flavor with the pepper. The soups are also pretty good and has many other dishes that are staples for Chinese cuisine. The dishes are served family style like many other establishments, making it very worth if coming with a large party.
During my visit, one of the servers spoke to me in a raised, aggressive tone because my coat was touching the ground !! The interaction was public and embarrassing, and it completely ruined my appetite. I was so shaken that I could not eat my food and felt the need to leave.
What made this experience especially painful is how targeted and disrespectful the treatment felt. As a person of color, I could not help but feel that I was not being given the same patience or basic courtesy that other guests seemed to receive. Whether intentional or not, the behavior came across as discriminatory and hostile, and that is something no guest should ever have to feel while simply trying to enjoy a meal.
Restaurants are not just about food—they are about hospitality. Being spoken to harshly and made to feel small is unacceptable, regardless of the circumstances. There was no apology, no attempt to de-escalate, and no concern shown for how the interaction affected me as a customer.
I am sharing this review so others—especially people of color—can make an informed decision before dining here. Everyone deserves to be treated with respect and dignity, and unfortunately, that was not my experience at Jade Garden.
I hope management takes this feedback seriously and addresses how guests are spoken to, because no one should leave a restaurant feeling the way I did.
