Step into the past. Old school restaurant that opened in 1933. If you go in the morning on a Saturday, expect a wait and a hunt for parking. Very popular place.
Atmosphere and service was very good. Unfortunately the food was just average.
My chicken fried chicken gravy seemed store bought. Didn’t have the thickness or sausage flavor that you would get in Texas or Oklahoma. It was more like a chicken gravy you’d put on mashed potatoes, more yellow than the gray of a traditional country gravy. I miss that.
One of the guys at my table had the eggs Benedict and he said the same thing about his hollandaise sauce.
But, fun place to eat and worth a try.
Enjoy!!!

I’ve been going to Jacks for as long as I can remember, today I ordered a small order of menudo and was highly disappointed in the amount of menudo that came in what was a small size, it was half full when I called to complain the manager said that’s the way they fill the order and what was the reason for the call”what’s your point” was his stupid respond. I tried to explain that my point was when I’ve ordered in the past a small did not come half full and paying 14.00 dollars was very disappointing. I understand times are tough for everyone but I honestly feel ripped off and his indifference made me tell him I will never order from Jacks again. There are plenty of other places to get menudo I have always been a big supporter of Jacks not anymore.

Absolutely amazing restaurant! They’ve been around since the 30’s and they are the best breakfast spot in all of LA. Absolutely amazing food. They were crazy busy in the morning but they still manage to serve people fairly quickly.

Jack’s is never a disappointment ! They greet you with a smile as you walk in ! It was packed this night because it’s Fried Chicken dinner night ! A full meal with dessert ! We got seated fast ! They got our drinks ! Big plus ! Marissa was beyond fabulous, she’s super nice & she knows the menu ! Her fast service made our dining very enjoyable ! We ordered the Wednesday special, the Fried Chicken dinner ! Our meal was huge ! More delicious ! We had our dessert of Ice cream and took home our remaining Chicken & baked potato ! This is amazing diner in the heart of Whittier !

My Favorite breakfast spot in Whittier. There lunch & dinner is good too, but I love the Chicken Fried Steak & Eggs or the California Omelet. With their house salsa!!

Originally opened in 1933 I drove from West LA specifically for this diner and I’m very happy that I did so. I am working through a list of all diners in LA County and next on the list was Jack’s. I was excited to try it based on how many decades it’s been open and also just from the pictures I could tell this sort of architecture and vibe that I want to see for a diner breakfast. They have a parking lot attached with free parking and even though it was crowded we were able to be seated after about a 5 min wait. Our server was extremely polite and everything that we ordered came out very fast. The interior looks like a true LA retro diner with the Googie architecture and plenty of booth and counter seating. Since it was opened prior to the 1950s, it doesn’t have the rock ‘n’ roll theme which I was glad to see since a lot of the newer diners copy that 1950s aesthetic.
They have a very large menu so it was hard to choose what I wanted to order but I settled on the Steak Skillet because I’d read a lot of great reviews about it. I will say that it is very good and the steak is very tender and flavorful. They don’t skimp on the portion sizes and overall I was very happy with the dish. We also ordered some bakery items and everything was very tasty and made us want to visit again soon. I would definitely recommend to any fan of diners or to anyone in the area searching for a great breakfast or lunch option.

Honest Review of Jack’s Whittier
I expected good food—place was packed, clean, and had a great old-school diner vibe. Sadly, the food was a major letdown.
What I Ordered:
• Scrambled eggs → rubbery
• Bacon → burnt and too crispy
• Hash browns → just okay
• French toast → covered in cooked egg (had to swap for pancakes)
• Coffee → lukewarm and weird tasting
Service:
Not rude, but not friendly. Saw a waiter being sarcastic to an elderly couple nearby—unprofessional. Servers seemed distracted and gossiping.
Cost:
$60 for two people, meal hardly eaten. Left a tiny tip, no to-go boxes, no doggy bag. Hard to justify for what we got.
Thoughts:
Jack’s has been around since the 1930s—impressive history—but the quality that kept it alive for almost a century is clearly gone. Without better cooks and management, I doubt they’ll last much longer.
Bottom line:
Great vibe, but terrible food and mediocre service. Not worth the price.

I would like to preface this review by saying that the service is amazing, truly top tier and we had a wonderful service experience. Our server and other staff members were welcoming, honest and very attentive. Now, the food itself, on the other hand was very lackluster. We had the meatloaf dinner and pork chop dinner. The server did warn us saying that many people don’t like the meatloaf dinner. But since it was my grandfather’s birthday and he loved meatloaf. We got it anyway. It resembled something like canned dog food with brown gravy on top.It also tasted that way. The pork chops were good.Four out of five stars. The lentil soup was delicious 5/5. The salad was also great. They make all their sauces in-house. They grind their own meats, (which I think they overground the meat for the meatloaf.) And I’d go back to try other foods.

We love this place. Great atmosphere, good food, good music. Even the other customers are nice and friendly. However….the younger guys at the counter have an attitude. They are never friendly, unless you’re a regular. Waitresses are always super friendly, its just the front counter that has attitude.
