Since 1913, Jack’s Oyster House has been a beloved dining landmark in New York’s capital. Jack’s proudly carries a legacy of exceptional hospitality and everlasting flavors. In 2013, the stretch of State Street from Broadway to Pearl was officially named Jack’s Oyster House Way.
For generations, Jack’s, located in downtown Albany, has been celebrated for its world-famous oysters, fresh seafood, and signature clam chowder. Today, our menu continues that tradition while embracing modern culinary creativity.
Family-run for a century+, this clubby fixture dishes surf ‘n’ turf amid dark wood & vintage pics.

Jack’s Oyster House. One of the best meals I’ve had in a very long time. The oysters were fresh and shucked perfectly. Every dish had delicious, unique flavors. Our server, Elias, along with the entire staff were friendly and professional. Definitely worth the money.

took quite a while after sitting to get our order taken, granted it’s valentine’s day and we sat down around 8:45. the scallops were
so fishy and sliced really thin, pasta was surprisingly salty, and the steak was alright.
tender but honestly the best part was the asparagus, had a really nice smoky flavor. the rest of the food was eh. the wait for the food took soooooo incredibly long, we didn’t get the food until around 10:15 (they close at 10). the complementary champagne is nice but doesn’t make up for the amount of time we had to wait for the food and the taste of the food. the best part of tonight was the drinks and the hospitality. i feel bad writing this because the vibe is great but the food and wait time just made me feel like the prices of the food was not worth it. honestly pretty disappointed… on top of that we didn’t get complimentary chocolate covered strawberries but the table next to us did by the end of it,
it seemed like today was pretty chaotic for them, we just expected more for the prices.

So glad this reopened! Had an amazing meal with the famed oysters as appetizers and the tagliatelle as my entree (cream sauce, tasso ham and oysters!) The Half Shell cocktail was basically an ice-cold martini with oyster infused vodka, sun dried tomato and truffle oil on top – delicious! Kiara (my server) was so friendly and also knowledgeable about the food and the drinks. Her wine knowledge was impeccable and she definitely gave me good guidance in picking a wine for my entree! Would love to see a wider selection of wine as they get going again but overall a great dinner experience and look forward to returning!

Table of 4, I will tell you that all 4 of us will say that every meal we had was over the top perfect. My chicken was the the best I’ve ever had it had broccoli Robbie and mashed potatoes that was out of this world, wish I had taken more pics.Kiersten had Salmon, Tina filet & Gianni a pasta omg. It’s a def spot to do asap. Zack on the drinks was incredible wish I could remember the name of the drink he got me, but it was unbelievable Jacks Manhattan that I tasted of Tina’s “perfect”, Definitely, let’s not forget our one and only waitress Kiara, she knew more about the food, restaurant and business than anyone I’ve listened to. She has all the menu down to a science as the building. Etc. So professional and as proper. Sorry for rambling should have done this at home but didn’t. Everything from beginning to end was perfect food was unreal get here asap! When you go please Tell Zack & Kiara Metro & Crew says hello ✌️

So thrilled to have Jack’s back. The food and drinks were high quality and delicious, and I’m surprised to say the service was even better! Attentive from the moment we stepped in the doorway. This was a class act from start to finish, fine dining all the way around. Can’t wait to go back!

Jacks Oyster House absolutely slayed #firstnight!
just two weeks after their re-opening, they’ve worked out their kinks and service ran like a well-oiled machine.
complimentary bubbles to start. don’t mind if we do!
i was feeling the nostalgia and ordered a tanq and tonic with the meal; my arm candy enjoyed a pair of Fiddlehead Brewing Company IPA. no draft line or cocktail list yet.
he and i started with CARPETBAGGER – a stunning #beefcarpaccio app with #oysters fried to crispy perfection, yet still airy and delicate. served with a truffle aioli, capers, pine nuts, lemon squeeze, and grilled toast points. ::drool::
my pasta entree SHEEPSMILK RICOTTA CAVATELLI was the table’s fav. chicken under a brick pleased both gents, the faroe island salmon with shaved brussels was highly regarded as well. our server explained all pasta is made fresh in house. #cavatelli shape was so consistent you could have fooled me. slight heat to the sausage, sage infused parmesan cream, baby bellas, and the freshest green peas. the dish just POPPED.
ended the experience with a round of espresso martinis. everyone but our DD, of course.
truly the ‘old school’ experience i was looking for this low-key NYE. thrilled the reopening did justice to the institute’s reputation. glad we got in before the renovations, expected to start in june. it’ll be an interesting before and after… *when* we return, not if.

Recently wanted to try Jack s Oyster House as I really enjoyed it in the past. However, I was disappointed this time (Jan. 2026) The environment though beautiful it was extremely cold. I ordered a Beef Eater gin and tonic, and I knew it wasn’t Beef Eaters on first sip. I mentioned it to server who said they didn’t have BeefEaters and substitute it with a well bar gin but never told me. I sent it back. Asked for unsweetened ice tea instead but they didn’t have any. The rolls served were burnt. Complements to chef as entree was outstanding but serving bowl was reminiscent of a white bed pan which took away from the experience. The waitress continually thought out the meal made excuses. The menu was limited. I wanted beef but only beef entree was $120. I hope management hears my concerns I will give it another chance as it might have been just a bad night for Jack s. Again kudos to the chef as the entree tasted great.

Should possibly remain closed. Seemingly chose to have lots of floor staff instead of training and management. Is there a kitchen? The food was awful.
Sadly another Albany restaurant that rushes to fine dining prices and a pantomime of fine diner service without actually doing the basics of serving a good meal.
Maybe first night is an excuse, but surely first night is the time to show your best?
Weirdly, not stale, but stale seeming wrong/terrible bread, trotted out again with the tasteless, unseasoned tartare. How does this happen? Closed proceedings with an inconceivably sweet pasta! No dessert thank you!
I should note, the martini was good – thanks to the bartender!

We celebrated our 25th Wedding Anniversary with a romantic dinner for 2 at Jack’s on February 20. We had a great experience. The raw oysters were okay, and steak tartare was good. The entrees were very good: Scallops Francese and Crescent Farm Duck. The scallops were fresh and perfectly cooked, delicious! The duck thigh was braised and fall off the bone tender, the breast succulent and tender with a rich beefy flavor. As good as the meal and wine were, our service from Kiara was even better. The desserts were excellent: Rustic Apple Tart and Crème Brûlée. Our server, Kiara was very gracious, extremely knowledgeable about the wine and the food, and the table was immaculate, while the pacing of the meal was timed perfectly!

We typically don’t eat out for Valentine’s Day but thought we’d take a chance at Jack’s. Service was polite and efficient. Would never know it was Valentine’s Day. We had the filet and scallops. Both were prepared properly and arrived in a timely manner. Cocktails were creative and enjoyable. Salad was very fresh and the beef carpaccio with fried oysters was extraordinary. Small hiccups…we had to ask for bread plates and they had a very limited dessert menu but provided complimentary chocolate covered strawberries. Glad to see this place back!
