I made a 5:30 reservation at Jack’s on the Green in Exeter, PA, and unfortunately the experience went downhill almost immediately. After being seated, the hostess returned five minutes later to tell us we were at the wrong table and moved us to one in the center of the dining room — not a spot I prefer. When I asked to speak with the manager, she stated bluntly that they had a seating plan and that’s where we would stay. Not the best start, but we chose to move past it so it wouldn’t ruin our evening.
The manager visited our table three separate times, which felt excessive, especially since our actual server hadn’t come by yet. Drinks were eventually delivered — by the manager, not our waiter — and then we waited another 15 minutes before our server, Erik, finally approached. He asked if we were still waiting for another couple before ordering, despite the restaurant never being more than half full and plenty of tables already set for two or four. Erik, to his credit, was the only genuinely hospitable person we encountered all night.
Food was mixed at best. The bacon-wrapped scallops appetizer was delicious and easily the highlight of the meal. My husband’s tuna with rice, however, was very bland, lacking seasoning or depth. I ordered a filet cooked medium-well, and it was disappointingly dry — the opposite of what a good filet should be. I even had my husband try it to confirm, and he agreed. Dessert, a chocolate crunch, was very nice and ended the meal on a slightly better note.

This ownership group also runs Stokesay in Reading, where we’ve dined many times without issue, which makes this experience even more surprising. The staff here could benefit from studying the level of service and professionalism demonstrated there.
Would I return? No.

Update: Dined again on a Saturday evening. Even BETTER THAN LAST TIME! Service (Theresa) always outstanding. Tried a new entre.. FANTASTIC! All 4 of us (all adults) were very pleased. Great job, Jack’s on the Green!
